FRAKKING WINDOWS

Frakkety frak frak.

So I come home and boot win for some tasty vid editing, and I'm met by a reset after "welcome". This happens a few times, but now it's just a black screen when I boot windows, nothing happens. Even if I f8 to get to the safe mode menu, nothing happens.

If I put a windows CD in (tried 3) to try and repair, then another blank screen.

This makes absolutely zero fucking sense.

Windows nerds, halp?

wait for schnee to ask about something else ! :O
i had that! I formatted tho
but, how could I even reinstall, if putting a windows disk in results in a black screen?

Maybe it's just because windows is already installed, if i formatted then installed.... Hmm... I'll have to find a spare drive to test :< gotta be another way
Parent
you put the disk in it right after you started your pc and your pc starts from disc?
Parent
what dezire said :P
Gotta run from CD, else i idd suggest getting a spare drive.
Not sure tho but i think i had a similair prob with pc going into reboot loop and giving startup screen when i didn't plug shit in right @ MOBO but i might be confusing my memories here :o)
Parent
i guarantee you it was booting from cd, got the "Setup is checking your pc" shit before blackscreening.

Nooo Meez! I feel for you!
what about the windows-repairfunction?
boot with a windows-cd and act like installing over the existing installation. I think it will ask you if you want to repair it!

then it will reinstall all common systemfiles and it may work again. it is the only solution I see besides formatting. you may ask google though!

/edit: oh, you already tried that function. :S
lol mob, it helps to read :p

if you can't even reinstall it seems to be a hardware error. Try to get an iso with a ram test software on it.
linux works fine :'<

will find my ramtest disc
Parent
linux isn't as sensitive with memory errors :D
Parent
are u using a sata2 disk with xp?
what would that imply?
Parent
it would imply that xp doesnt have sata2 drivers whereas linux does...
Parent
maybe I shouldve added that it worked fine for months, and then one day it just didnt
Parent
like nearly 100 % of pc probs u mean? Could be any sort of problem. Change the memory sticks, try to use an original cd. See if the hd is recognised in bios, blah blah..
Parent
it's weird, because, it's not a hd problem, linux boots fine (same hd), the CD isn't a problem (I've tried 6 different windows CDs), hd IS recognised

The only theory so far is that RAM or CPU is a little messed up, and windows doesn't like it, but because linux is a much better operating system it runs fine.

Either way I'm overdue an upgrade, best get to it this weekend.
Parent
yea thats why im thinking sata...I had a really arse problem that never went away on my pc at home...same symtoms...I reinstalled my image, everything fine for a few days then same shit..booting to the welcome screen then restarting....linux was fine...I seriously think it is a prob with your sata controller or the hd (if its sata)...get a cheap ide drive and try, im sure itll work....gl anyway.....;)

sounds like memory problem
anything from pc speaker?
put ur hd in other pc and format.
go into bios and change boot menu to boot from cdrom.
Quotei guarantee you it was booting from cd, got the "Setup is checking your pc" shit before blackscreening.

A mates pc was doing the same a few days ago meez, i couldnt get it to boot from cdrom, windows would start to load then just reboot, couldnt get it to boot in safe mode neither, ended up having to put the hard drive in my pc run CHKDSK and found bad sectors, then i did a quick format put it back in his pc and it booted from cdrom/reformatted xp and its been fine since.
