strange fps drops :s

I'm getting these very annoying fps drops almost all the time (especially when shooting :() in Enemy Territory. I was hoping on going to play this game again after being away for 3 years, and i remember it used to run great on my pc.

But now it simply doesn't :s

intel pentium 4E 530 (3,0Ghz HT)
1GB RAM
7600GS

I've read somewhere it could be because of my hyperthreading or something :s but i can't seem to find any posts with fixes

Btw Intel + HT = suck

AMD + HT = win

E: aha windows xp, perhaps a virus ? or a fragmented hard drive ? (always defrag after format and installation of everything)

Whats your Anti-virus and firewall?

I get it sometimes on laptop :(.

But not when I'm shooting just running around.

afaik you can disable HT from bios.

try tinyxp beast edition its a light windows version created to run really fast ive almost solved my problems with that
its probably the punkbuster eating your resources :o)

well its not "free" its a normal Windows it just doesnt install a lot of crap that is in the normal windows but that you dont really need
