under £1000? that's.... easy...

oh... prebuilt.. mmm

You could try saving money on the monitor by getting an iiyama CRT over an LCD? :e
in reality how much more do you pay for when its prebuilt roughly
Parent
depends.
might be 200-300£, might be less. might be that the parts are just bad for the money, so you dont directly lose money but you do lose performance.
Parent
well, you get what u pay for to be honest.

look on http://gladiatorcomputers.com
are they reliable because they seem to have a couple on there for decent prices
Parent
yes, i bought my last 2 pc's from them

latest one was 1300 in september there, included :
150gb Raptor ( 10krpm) 500gb WD( 7.2krpm)
Creative Xtreme X-Fi Gamer
XFX 8800 Ultra 768mb
2048mb ddr2 pc8500 Patriot

but u dont need to buy a pr built system, u can request a custom build, tell em what u want and thenthey will get back to ya with a price.
Parent
and that was with the case being near 100, and the psu over 100.

so if u skimp back on them ( never mind the ultra which was 400 )

it'll be well under 1000 :)
Parent
e8400 - £132.93
ram - £40 (could probably even go cheaper, thats XMS2 which isn't really needed)
Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 - £225
PSU - Corsair VX ( ~ £50)
p35 mobo - ~ £60
some CPU cooling - ~ £10-£15

total: ~ £523

just needs a case and monitor :<
know of any uk websites where you pick the parts and they will build it for you for like 50 quid etra or something like that..
if worsts comes to worst i can just buy parts separate and build it myself
Parent
thats what i done @ gladiators mate, just emailed em with a list of stuff and they built it for £30 build charge
Parent
it's not really rocket science, but it can be scary the first time, you often have to push things in much harder than you would think

if you DO decide to build it yourself, I recommend taking your old machine apart and putting it back together a couple of times

also, manuals are your friend, never skip anything if it's your first build
Parent
Dude building it yourself is realy easy. I had never done it before until recently, just follow the manuals supplied. Usually the Mobo has a pretty decent manual that shows you how to do everything! + google helps :) you should just try it, it's rly easy ;D
Parent
i wont need to buy an extra ide cabels or anything like that will i? I took my old pc apart and put it back together before so im sure i can do it, well hopefully lol
Parent
All cables i needed were included with all the parts i bought. And if you generally know how a computer looks on the inside it's really ezbash :) GL tho :D
Parent
where did you find the e8400 at that price
Parent
ebuyer, but they are out of stock :<

CORE 2 DUO E8400, 3.000 GHz 6MB, 1333MHz, LGA775 BOX
+ Scythe INFINITY SCINF-1000 MUGEN

Ram DDR2 Crucial PC6400 800 2GB kit (1GBx2) Ballistix 240-pin

WD 500 Gb SATA300 , 7200, WD5000AACS, 16MB cache SATA-II/300 GREEN

Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP , P35

BFG GeForce 8800GT OC2 512MB GDDR3 2-DVI PCIe
run cod4 easily?
Parent
cod4 is really scalable tbh
Parent
will run cod4 smooth (minimum 50fps, mostly ~100) on highest settings 16af 4aa 1280x1024
or you can take off af / aa or lower some other settings to get stable 125fps
Parent
since i got the wifi atm is the pk5 the same mobo without wifi
Parent
From what i've read so far P5K-E is most advanced motherboard from whole P5K series. Wi-Fi is just an useless supplemental
Parent
k so far im basically taking what you said. could you recommend a case and what watt psu am i looking at
Parent
dunno about case, someone said something about Antec Ninehundred http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=15900. If you have an option take it. About PSU, i would recommend you Enermax Liberty/Infinity.Since you want to take more pwrfull gfx card there is one for you http://www.enermax.com.tw/english/product_Display1.asp?PrID=5. Oh and if you won't be able to find Enermax in your shop take Chieftec.
Parent
Why don't you just build your own? its easy and feels great when you finish it, first turn it on :P will save u loads of cash aswell for better equipment.
