dvd to avi convertor

i need a dvd to avi convertor, my brother is in egypt for 2 years and my parents are going next week, i'm giving them a hdd with movies on it etc and i'm planning to put some dvd's on it as well.
Does anyone know a decent program to rip from dvd to avi?

Use AutoGK and DVD decrypter.
If they are copy protected, it's a problem, dvd decrypter should decrypt it, but didn't work for me. Downloading is easier.
