21" CRT

I saw someone here in iceland trying to sell a 21 inch crt, i was wondering..since i use r_mode 4 (800x600), and in the advert it says:

280x1024/98Hz · 1600x1200/85Hz · 1600x1280/75Hz
640x480/160 Hz · 800x600/160 Hz


does this mean i would run the monitor @ 160hz ? and those of you who know much about this stuff..some advices please :D!

ok so I had an DELL 21" Trinitron and I couldn't run it with 160 hz even on 640x480 resolution 8)

125 fps r_mode 4 -> 120 hz the best imo
buy it but run it @ fps = hz.
would i want to get a 19 inch rather than a 21 inch or the other way around for some reason ?
21" is better, cause the actual visible size of the screen of a CRT is a bit smaller than of a TFT. Take into consideration that a 21" is large and heavy though, you need enough space for it.

yes it means you can play @ r_mode 4 @ 160 hz but the problem is that you only have 125 fps max.

imo: play @ r_mode 6 @ 120 hz!

edit: r_mode 4 @ 21" = ugly!

I can't help because I don't know this brand.
But if you're searching after an ownage crt monitor, just buy an iiyama vision master pro. I have the 514 (22 inch) for years and it rox !

as already said, you should ba able to play r_mode 6 at 120 hz
i got a 21" CRT aswell. For the most CRT's is the hz value percentage to the resolution. That means that the example

Quote 280x1024/98Hz · 1600x1200/85Hz · 1600x1280/75Hz
640x480/160 Hz · 800x600/160 Hz


is mostly the other way around like:

800x600/ 85 hz max - 1024x786/ 100 hz... and so on.
A higher resolution give you the option for a higher hz value.


My resolution is 1280x1024 and i can run this on 120 hz.

And dont forgett that hz have nothing to do with fps ;]

The higher the resolution, the lower the hz will be that the monitor can handle on that resolution. Period.

The most CRT's i saw @ my Work were from the Company Nokia and Sony. Both are always bring you a higher hz value just on a high resolution. Maybe the lowprice CRT's do it the other way around ;]

Really, stop. You are making a fool out of yourself. There are no such CRT monitors that can handle higher Hz as the resolution goes up. No matter what price-range you look in. Lower resolutions will always be able to handle higher hz than higher resolutions.

Iam sitting infront of a Nokia 4451XiPlus [21" CRT]. This monitor support a resolution with 1800 x 1440 and a hz value of 125 on this.

If i gonna take just a resolution of 800 x 600 it just support the hz of 85.

Thats the fact what iam talking about.

Here an Example:

At a resolution of 1024 x 768 Pixel and a horizontalfrequenzy of 86 kHz is a max. Displayrefresh of 105 hz possible. 86000 Hz : 768 = 112 Hz, 5 % subtraction cuz of the setback from right down to left up give's you 105 Hz.

Obviously your CRT is the cheap one that for some obscure reason sucks ass at lower resolutions.

I'm sitting in front of a Compaq P1220, a 22" Trinitron CRT that used to cost around 900 dollars back in 2001.

640x480 - 150 Hz
800x600 - 150 Hz
1024x768 - 150 Hz
1280x960 - 120 Hz
1280x1024 - 100 Hz
1600x1200 - 100 Hz
1920x1080 - 85 Hz
2048x1536 - 75 Hz

Do you see a pattern here?

Well, i dont know how much it had cost tbh.

But my Company is working with this Series a long time already and i dont think they would buy cheap ones. But i also think all the facts we are talking about depends mostly on the Monitor itself. So we guys wont a find a solution for our conversation.

This is not a case of solution or not, it's a case of simple fact. And the simple fact is, higher resolution means lower hz. This is not a matter of opinion or cheap or expensive monitors but a matter of actual fact.

You are confusing horizontal and vertical frequency with each other.

Horizontal frequency is the time it takes for the monitor to draw a single scan line. 86 kHz means, that it takes 1/86000 seconds to draw a single line.

Vertical frequency is the speed at which the monitor refreshes the whole screen. 85 Hz means the electron gun sweeps the image 85 times in a second from top to bottom. For the end user, this rate is the significant number, which dictates your screen's flicker rate.

This site lists your monitor's refresh rates. As you can see, the rate decreases when resolution increases.
