for the console you may use a startupscript like this (simply change etqw-rthread.x86 to the ET executable):

1. keyboard - imo just switch from your native keyb. layout to us key. layout /works fine on FC8

2. second prob / dunno - imo it can be open/gl probs, try glxgears util, if o/gl works, and be sure your xserver can display game resolution.

HF with et in linux ;op

"altgr" + "+" is how i open my console (german keyboard), but tbh i dont have a clue about linux

1. Open ET with terminal and paste the error it gives you when the game crashes
2. Use ctrl+` to open console

sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` .etwolf

should be enough to fix the perimission problem.
This changes the owner and group of the .etwolf (where all your maps and config files are) to your normal user and group. This should give your normal user read/write access to everything in there, and as you see from the et console log that's the reason it crashes; it can't read the config file.

When you ran "sudo nautilus":
1. That's an incredibly stupid thing to do. Don't do it.
2. You started ET from an icon after that? If so, that's the explanation for why it worked; Then ET would be run as root, with all possible kinds of perimissions. If it wanted to, it could even try to use your hard disk as a modem (actually Linus Torvalds did that once, effectively ruining everything on the disk). Since you can do all possible things wrong without anything stopping you as root, you should avoid that at all costs. So even sudo nautilus gives you full access to everything, which is definately not a good idea when you're new to Linux. You might end up fucking up your whole system.
