.m4a files

i just downloaded a discography with musicalbums..but 4 out of 5 is filled with .m4a files, which i cant open because they are not recognized by my computer

What are these? musicfiles? if yes, how can i convert them into .mp3?

oh maybe its because WinAmp didnt work anymore on my computer...and i have Foobar now :D
