backing up my shit

whats the best way to back up your windows?
almost shat my pants when it said 'unable to load boot.ini file' on startup, but it still loaded windows. just started thinking what would happen if my windows fucked up, i would lose all my shit and now I wanna back it up - what's the best way? i dont wanna use like 300 dvds and im not buying an external hdd

use norton ghost, can make a rly small file out of everything you select, prolly even fits on 1/2 dvd's, and when u install ur pc u can use norton ghost again to install it.

i have an extern 250GB hdd where i store all my music (190GB), program setup installations, etc. Also everything important I have, if it's stored on my main HDD; I also copy it to the external one.

It's also very nice when reinstalling windows! No CDs around.. clean windows, open extern hdd, click on 20 setup.exe files and you're ready to go!

EDIT: just realized that you wrote you don't want an external hdd :s
then invent a virtual storage device.. OR use GMAIL DRIVE

if u have a 2nd partition back up your stuff there and just format the main harddrive where windows is installed. Or borrow an external hdd from a friend

The best choice for the rich guy is tape backup but for the average person I would recomend a NAS or a ethernet harddrive, both used along with dvd-backups.

real men dont do backups. they just upload their important stuff to some ftp and let the rest of the world mirror it ...
