any chemistry pro's here?

If you have this polymer

image: 28i6vwm

what is its monomer?

It was a question on a test on polymerization a friend of mine had one year ago, I just don't know the answer to it @_@

EDIT: problem solved I think, thanks :P

is that how u make gold?
whats a monomer xD

edit: checked wikipedia...wat zeh fuck ? XD
explain to us all ?
Parent
polymer is the whole shit there

and monomer is only a part of it...or something like that :/
Parent
my brother should know that but he's sleeping
hmm that's possible, so it is a sequence of C4H8 turned around all the time? that could explain the fact that it looks so odd at first sight. the CH2 at both ends should then be explainable, because it is a part of the polymer I guess, and they are just parts of the new C4H8 which is in the sequence
Parent
jup, well gl on your test! now you'll ace it:p
Parent
let's hope so, thanks for your help :p

Sone now we have a new smart guy :P

FOR EVERYTHING JUST ASK WITJE ;)

da ben je wel als je zo elke dag door blijft leren van 9 tot 9
Parent
yes,it seems to be the right answer :D

2,2,4,4,7,7,8,8-Octa-methyl-Decaan? glad i haven't tog chemistry anymore.. i suck at it :D gl!
2,2,4,4,7,7,8,8,methyl-decan tbh

or wait..there was something with di and tri...dnno
Parent
ryan is right in the name, there are eight methylgroups so octamethyl :D
Parent
i think the monomer is half of this structure
if that really would be the case it should be a repeating pattern of either 2,4-methylpentan or 2,3-methylpentan, isn't the case ;p
Parent
true , i am still thinking :)

I know if u mix weedkiller and saltpeter and put a match to it you can blow your fucking eyebrows off....
1,1 dimethyl-ethane ? or would it be called 2-methyl-propane, going on the longer chain... bleah, that was 2 years ago, can't remember :}
2-methylpropane :)

jezus ben ik ff blij dat ik EM ben gaan doen ;-D
"poly" means many or, in this context, repeating while "mono" means single. So a "monomer" is the single part that is repeated to form a "polymer", worked it out now?
