hejjj [computer related]

Hi. - I'm planning on building a new computer for the end of summer. By then i hope to have around £600/700 - or possibly more to spend on buying the pc components etc..

However i've never built a pc before but i've heard it's not TOO difficult :P what i need help with is - what are the main things i need to make it work :P?

hd, gfx card, cpu, motherboard, ram, case, disk drives etc etc... Anything else such as sound cards and stuff? (sound card needed or is it optional? :/)

On the otherhand if anyone can link me to some cheap prebuilts that are actually good, feel free to do so.. since it would save me the work..

Overall, what i need from you is ; Suggestions for the different components (Good price for what i'm buying..) , any other parts i'd need that i haven't mentioned.

Thanks in advance

One of the newest E dual-core from intel
2gb ram
Random latest GFX card
I've built my own system from scratch a few months ago, without having any experience. Went fine, havent had any problems ever since :)
You will need for a PC to run and work with a case.

CASE - CPU - RAM - POWER - GRAPHICS - SOUND (optional, cuz it is sometimes BETTER ONBOARD) - FANS - AND OFC YOUR MOTHERBOARD.

Best thing to do is just get a MOBO for around £70-90 then get some DDR2 RAM @ as high MHZ you can. Get a AMD processor for gaming, INTEL for Desktop. Now it is best to get QUAD core as it is the way of the future, they are not expensive and will be a great asset for you.

Graphics ATM would be best to go for Nvidia
go for Intel. Doesn't matter if it's for working or gaming. Intel is in both categories faster than AMD.

Cheers for the tips. About quad core, i heard that most games aren't compatible with them yet, so would it be better getting a dual core and then waiting for a better quad core etc?

Well thats entirely up to you m8 :), but if you are going to wait got for AMD, I see that people chose on WHAT THEY HAVE ONLY HAD, and not on experience. I have had AMD and Intel, I currently use intel as I could not find an AMD for laptop with good specs.

I have had no problem with AMD but with Intel I seem to get FPS drops bad sometimes :(.

Also heats up more than AMD now, I had running AMD 4400+X2 for awhile @ 2ghz and I had no overheating problems with it with a bog standard heatsink.

People say INTEL IS BETTER AND AMD IS CRAP, atm Intel are pushing their weight more than AMD as they are releasing more and more, just raking in more money than AMD. AMD are crawling back with their new phenom(sumt) core.

With all the AMD vs Intel wars it should always be on experience, but for gaming and a 110% I would say AMD, I could run 6 ET'S without having 1fps drop all connected to servers on the same map.

Now with Intel I cant do that as it just slows right down. Also with amd I had Media player open but on Intel it takes up 50% CPU, and it's not the OS.
