"lifting" means taking your foot off the throttle for a short amount of time or at least easing off the throttle for a bit. Alonso did nothing wrong, Hamilton just fucked it up.

He did not break, he lifted off the throttle (Lifting) at the point where he should of had his foot down. So Lewis put his foot down thinking Alonso would but alonso did not.
When Hamilton makes a mistake it's suddently Alonso's fault, give me a break here :) That's just shit, and Hamilton had problems get past Fisichella - Force India that is! Showing those handsigns just shows what a tool Hamilton is when he is under pressure.
F1 is unfortunatley a very English bias sport, from its ownership down to its broadcasting and thus when Hamilton makes a mistake the Brits dont like it and in this case take the easy way out and blame alonso.
As a result, whilst I wouldnt say Hamilton is unpopular in England, hes not loved as other english sporting stars are because the media defend him too much and he doesnt have a personality strong enough to overcome that.
