my sister is gonna study in liverpool soon
she wants me to order her a new notebook. budget: 1200 Euros
the notebook must have international warranty (europe should be enough)
1. Who owns a Dell-Notebook? Is it worth to pay for the name? Those r most expensive ones but warranty should be easy also in england?
2. Any other? I know of FSC´s international warranty... HP is out of interest!
My Dell choice:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo-Prozessor T8100 (2,10 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2-Cache)
Original Windows Vista™ Home Premium (32 Bit) - Deutsch
4 Jahre XPS-Premium-Hardware-Support für Privatanwender (inkl. Game-Support & Support vor Ort) ändern
2,0-Megapixel-Kamera in Smokingschwarz für CCFL-Display ändern
LCD 15,4-Zoll-Breitbild-WXGA-TFT-Display (1280 x 800, 220 cd/m2) mit TrueLife™
4096 MB 667 MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2 x 2048]
320 GB SATA-Festplatte (5.400 U/Min.)
nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT mit 256 MB
Festes 8x DVD+/-RW-Laufwerk (Slim) mit automatischem Einzug, einschließlich SW
Lithium-Ionen-Hauptakku mit 6 Zellen und 56 Wh
1.247,99 €

Normally an on board gpu should suffice.
RAM is performance...she studys "Elektrotechnik" ... "technisches Zeichnen" etc ... so it will be more an advantage than waste of money
buy that
i just did=)
edit:
4 gb is a waste of money as an 32bit O/S doesn't use more than 3gb afaik
also, you shouldn't buy a 8600GT unless it's necessary.. it takes a lot of power and therefore reduces battery time..
2gb ram + intel c2d is fine.. things like battery life, design and the laptop’s temperature after a few hours are more important than a 8600GT
In short, Yes its worth the extra for the name. Dell offer brilliant warranties and insurance, so this would be the best option for her needs.
Personally I'd recommend getting a 15inch vostro, which you can get for probably less than 1200 euro
i had a look at the Vostros...prob is they dont offer international warranty for them...but the Latitudes do have 3 years of intern. warranty! The vostros look better but thats not important.
service & warranty r very important! so i just decided to call dell...they´ll send me some personal offers via email soon
i think this will be my first order@dell today
thx again! I´ll let u know if i get sth!
bought it 1,5 years ago for 1700...
Intel Core duo T2400 @ 1,83 ghz
geforce 7600 go
win xp home
1 gigabyte ram...
i ve studied with it enough, i ve been constructing 3D Projects in Solid Works and CATIA...
and ofc i played every little shit game like et, q3, q4, painkiller, cs, css, cod2 and stuff with it... np
you rly dont need anything better for technical constructions and electronic circuties
nice program with a pritty shitty structure
but u can construct nice stuff :D
However, as she is going to Liverpool, I recommend a hefty insurance for it, and other security devices xD
together with the apple care protection plan you will have warranty all over the world
