In need of a GPU

So my old graphic card decided to call it a day. I'm lucky enough to have onboard vga, but 1280x1024 in analogue on a 22" widescreen sucks. You can see every frame getting rendered... and that's just for scrolling down on a website.

Now I'm obviously in need of a new card. Requirements:
- CHEAP ( max. ~50 €)
- Needs to get the job done (it's NOT needed for gaming)
- No fucking extra power supply needed (I just wasted one hour trying to get rid of the last one)

I guess that's about it. Any ideas/ recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

same here need cfx card & money ! !
geforce 6600 gt.
too expensive + that is a gaming card.
Parent
just get a radeon 9250 if you really dont need it for gaming...
Parent
58 euros in Poland, I thought it's cheaper now
Parent
He doesn't need it for gaming , can't you read ?
Parent
can't you read, that now I was talking with fredd? that's why people usually use the "REPLY" button

tell me what PSU do you have?
you can get an okay gfxcard that's been used for 50 eur but really, dunno what to suggest at that price point thats new. Maybe an ati 2600 pro, or a 7800/7900 GS?
also, does it need to be AGP or PCI-E?
agp cards are older and more expensive
Dunno. Some 350W PSU.
It's a cheap PC I bought almost 3 years ago for my place at the university. It only had onboard vga, so I installed a 9800 SE AIW which I still had. I currently mainly use it for internet, mail, etc. and as a tv (a stream for vlc; I guess that should be the most stressing, ~6mb/s).
Parent
why not get another 9800 ? should be cheap enough
Parent
The (online) stores I was looking at I wasn't able to find one. :P
Parent
btw do you know what kind of videocard you actually need? PCI-E or AGP?
Parent
there was no 9800 with PCI-E afaik
Parent
8400 / 2400 / 3450
better off getting an older more powerful card
Parent
older? plx. He doesn't need it for gaming, so why does he need anything powerful? Better take something that supports everything new and is supported + under warranty.
Parent
supports everything new? wtf?

you mean dx10? you wont be playing dx10 games anyway with it since the fps would be 5
Parent
Omg, he said he doesn't need it for gaming. And well newer gpu's must have some optimizations(new instruction sets) for a lot of purposes like decoding videos etc etc..

Besides some cheaper but newer GPUs have passive cooling which will lower overall noise in pc's and your "supercool" old ones will mostly have FAILcoolers. And ofc it should consume less energy and save you some money. So your advice fails.

get a ati 2600xt
EBay ftw :xD
They dont have eng/sa so i thought id go with this for the next 6 months then change back

riva tnt2 > all
7600gt
I just saw a 6200 by MSI for 28€ (MSI NX6200AX-TD128LF). Passive cooling, apparently 12W power consumption, might get the job done(?), but I'm unsure about the price. Isn't this card pretty old?
price is kinda too high imo 8o
and yes it's 6th series and nvidia released 9th this year. So yeah, it's kinda old.
Parent
The lowest price for that card I was able to find was merely 5€ cheaper. Seems like they don't want to get rid of old cards.
Parent
I guess you have AGP, then this might be the best option for you, considering you don't need anything from your GPU. Well there is also cheap ati2400pro, but couldn't find it with passive cooling.
Parent
The same shop got a X1050 (GeCube RX1050) for 29€. Dunno how it compares to the 6200 performance wise, but it has almost twice the power consumption of the 6200.
I guess I better stay on the safe side and buy the 6200.
Parent
ati hd2400 pro,30€
x1600PRO?
PCI-express or AGP?
GeForce FX 5200
Parent
Try get a 9800 Pro for like 25 euros!
Parent
2400 50 euroz

AGP HD2600Pro 512MB :D

faster and much better than 7600GS, supports DX10, ATI Avivo HD technology, built-UVD--> plays Blu-ray with significantly less CPU utilization.

Way to go for less than 60€

Buy it :)
n1 :p much better for gaming, not that good for playing Blue Ray movies though -> no UVD (PCIe)
