1600x1200 is, indeed, a bit too much for most 19" CRT monitors. Not only because you'll need binoculars to see what's on the screen, but also because the resolution doesn't physically fit on the screen.

Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 has a 18" viewable area (45,72 cm). It also has a 0.25 mm dot pitch, meaning the physical space each pixel requires is 0.25 mm. As the aspect ratio of the monitor is 4/3, the screen's width is probably about 365 mm and height about 275 mm.

If you divide 365 mm with 0.25 mm, you'll notice, that the maximum amount of pixels the monitor can display horizontally is 1460. 140 pixels are dropped when using 1600x1200 resolution. Same with height, 275/0.25=1100, a good hundred pixels gone.

Will one notice the missing pixels? Most likely not. But they're still gone! ;)
