Ich bin ein Berliner!

Guten tag,

For my upcoming Germany German exam (oral) I'll need to discuss a subject in german (duuh) which is really typically Germany Germany. It can really be no matter what.. except sports.. so no random Schumacher or Ullrich stories... No sports!

I dont want any stories about a how you prepare a freeking bradwurst or things like thats but really something fascinating which is really easy to talk about for some minutes.

Some things I was already thinking about:

- The yerman passion for cars. Every German has a BEAST-car, yet they don't really seem to care about a nice house for example
- Yerman beers :O)
- Bavaria -> Lederhosen,..

Thanks in advance.

Here are some statistics about Germans - originally published in SPIEGEL 17/2008:

Thats what all my german teachers pretty much told me :). I've also been to Germany twice or something and it's really remarkable how many BMW's you see standing in front of a "normal" house if you know what I mean :p
Parent
But compare those "normal" houses to the English or Dutch ones. It's much cheaper to build a house in Germany, that's why most of them are bigger than houses in other countries.
(that's also what my host family in England told me :D :)

Nevertheless, I agree with your opinion on Germans and their cars. Although I personally don't like it, but that's maybe a reason of my job as a banker - there are better ways to invest your money xD
Parent
They aren't bigger. Isn't it so that you have lots of cases where you have like 2 families living together in only one house. Yet, one of them owns a bigass BMW and the other one a cruises around in his Mercedes.
Parent
bmw and mercedes are overrated.
Parent
do not compare bavarians with the rest of the germans. thx in advance.
yes except to eastern germany.
Somebody please explain me this thing with Bavaria and Germany plx ;D?
Parent
it doesnt belong to germany.
Parent
nah, its just one big lie ! :D
Parent
Seems like germans don't really like bavarian people.. please tell me why. Does it has to do with their accent, the lederhosen, their culture, something historical? This might be interesting.
Parent
It's just because we drive BMWs instead of Trabant/Opel like the peeps from east/north germany.
Parent
i think even more people in hamburg are driving a bmw than in munich. just look at all the turks =)
Parent
Handyladentürken, deren einzige Bestimmung es ist einen 3er zu fahren, zählen nicht.

Aber sone alte, fette Türkin mit Kopptuch im 7er ist schon lustig. ^^
Parent
i for example like their beer, the countryside etc. and of course the good wheather.

but i really cant stand their accent and the "lederhosen" stuff, because a lot of people in the world think all germans are wearing "lederhosen", especially the americans, since most of them were based in bavaria after WW2.

i dont hate them :) i just dont like that stuff =)
Parent
because bavaria is superior to the rest of germany. They are just jealous =)

you can't trust me since I'm coming from bavaria though =(
Parent
well Bavaria refer to itself being a "free state" - and as i am bavarian i know that, most of its inhabits think they are "special". it has a beautiful countryside, thats for sure, but the ppl living there are strange. I had to suffer them 24 years of my life, and I have my reasons moving far far away. There are tons of jokes about Bavarians in German Language .. but as well about those "East Frisian" guys and guys from east-germany.
Parent
talk about german crossfire scene
just make the comparaison between german and belgian beers, bring a beer along to the exam and all the rest will be izi pash.. (well it was izi bash at my oral exam and i suck at deutsch)

EDIT: www.bier.de

all you need bout german beers
What the hell did you do with the beer you brought with you? And what did you exactly do? You just compared a random belgian beer with a german one.. and did the teacher like it?
Parent
i started with a small introduction, bout belgium is very known for its beers, but so is germany. After that I went deeper into the subject Germany, gave a little history of their beer culture (in the middle ages it were the women who brew the beer 'n stuff). Once you've had that part, you make the separation between the different kind of beers according to the way they are made (how much of this, that, etc).. Then you go more specific naming some 'known' kinds of beer: Pilsener, Bock, Diatpils, ... etc. Once you've had that part you show the beer you found yourself. And you give some small sidenote bout the beer, tell where its from etc, how it should taste. Then you take a random belgian beer and tell something bout that as well. Once you've introduced both of them you offer your teacher to taste them. 9/10 he will refuse since he still got to take off exams, so basically you can tell him/her everything what you want (for if you wouldn't taste any real difference). Though normally you should figure out some differences easily (depending on what beer you take ofc!). I took 2 Pilseners (Becks and Jupiler) and said some stuff that prolly isn't right though my teacher said i performed quite well compared to the others, so if i succeed in doing that it should be an izi bash for others to act so as well.

One sidemark is the fact that it is fucking hard to find a German beer! So if you would take one with you, you should start looking for it on time!
Parent
how the fuck could it be hard to find a german beer oO its even available in italy...
Parent
belgium is very known for its beers.. we've got many different kinds 'n stuff, that's why we don't need to import other beers

conclusion => barely any yerman beer to be found!
Parent
i dont know any belgian beer sry xD same goes for germany than imo :P
Parent
yea i wondered the same thing myself :p like i know germany is very known for its beers, though hell i would know one real big name..
We don't get to know any of your beers simply because we got plenty of kinds ourselves..

So prolly germany refuses to import any belgian beers for the same reason..
Parent
agree, the beer in our countrys are just too highskilled
Parent
hahaha, der Neid. :D
Mitleid, nothing else.
Parent
selbstverständlich. und worauf beruft sich deine behauptung?
auf dein nicht vorhandenes wissen?
Parent
Haha, wie ich halt auf deinen Comment einfach nur gewartet habe...
Parent
