Mmh for ur gpu i would suggest u wait till the end of june. Afaik the new ATI cards will be released. Get a 4870x2 or something.
As mobo I think the Asus P5Q is nice or the Gigabyte x48-DQ6
fosho, roxx
btw: other specs?
It's only a few days :>
Take some expensive P45/X48 motherboard
and u are ready.
Dont take ATi
Current ATi drivers are bugged in openGL games.
And imo the Q9450 isnt worth the money anyway.
They are not very good overclockers compared to the Q6600.
I Had an Q9550 for myself for 2 weeks but sold it again with profit.
Because my Q6600 @ 3,6ghz and 450fsb is faster.
But if you dont overclock its a good choice.
Just by looking your own system config shows that noone should take advices from you.
I can see in your profile that ur the pc guru 4sure!
Second, saying that ATI drivers are bugged in OpenGL? Whaat? Show me proof of that.
Third, you play games and have a quadcore, and old quadcore?
Fourth, you own GX2 and 4GB ram, and use 32-bit OS - oh please, just fuck off will you
Show me proof of that.
Second
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/gamesite/Catalyst_85_release_notes.html
Just look @ release notes. Only good OpenGL from ATI the last year was in 7.11 Alot of people also changed the ATI Catalyst drivers including the 7.11 OpenGL drivers says enough. Also i tested some videocards last months ( 8800GTS 320MB HD3870 8800GTS 512MB and the 9800GX2 ) And atm i have the 9600GT and just waiting what the new generation will bring. But its a fact that the GTX280 is the fastest card comming out soon. I think i will buy an HD4850 or GTX260 the benchmarks will tell me what i need to choose.
And where does i say i only play games?
I use my quadcore for more things. Else i would have buyd an E8400 and overclocked it to 4Ghz or something like that.
My Profile is not up to date atm. I sold my GX2 and i use an 9600GT atm because the GX2 was too much overkill and i could sell it with profit anyway.
Fourth atm im using tripeboot system with win xp 32bit,vista 64bit, and ubuntu
And if you think i am some kind of NVIDIA fanboy. Or Intel Fanboy you are wrong.
I just buy whats the best. My old pc was Mobile Amd Athlon XP 2600+ with ATi Radeon 9800Pro. At that time that was the best.
And 5th this tread is to help mama out not to bash my system. But im sure i own your system anyday ;) Maybe try to help mama also with giving good suggestions. Where are they? Mr. I know it all.
Second, you didn't prove that the ATI OpenGL drivers suck, it was something long time ago. Glad I don't live in the past.
Third, GTX280 is overpriced, runs hot like hell, and quite possibly 2x HD4850 beats it. We will have to wait for benchmarks on that though. I can't see how 649$ msrp would be a good choice for anyone except the dummest. Same guys that buy GX2.
I would suggest him to wait for the launch, which will be end of this month. Buyind the top-end shit just isn't wise.
And for my system? I am rather happy with it, didn't cost too much, and it is sufficient for now. I do too use Intel, Core 2 Duo to be more specific, clocked at 3,2GHz.
Mama his budget allows GTX280. And it doesnt get that hot its allmost the same as the 3870X2 http://i32.tinypic.com/106mz3p.jpg http://i28.tinypic.com/2ef742o.gif
And crossfire is good but doesnt work good YET for alot of games. And i prefer to have one single card because you dont have any problems with SLI and Crossfire performance than. The performance is allways the same than. And not depending on drivers.

"This thing runs extremely hot. At default clock (600GHz) after a solid 30min of AoC play it went to 90C (figures from gpu-z 0.2.3) and hovered at that mark. I can almost visualize the nVidia engineers going "omg crank that thing up the ati train is coming!". They really went all out with this one thats for sure.
At 650GHz (yes its stable) it was at 105C. Fire risk?"
And a post from someone thats talking about 600Ghz is funny. And that guy doesnt talk about how the airflow is in his system for hot cards 8800GTX 8800ULTRA 3870X2 and 9800GX2 you need very good airflow else all those cards will run hot. Its nothing new. Maybe he doesnt even know that you can run the fan of the card alot faster. Maybe only the default fan speed is not good enough to cool it down enough.
kthx
