CPU is overclocking itself

Yeah, I'm having a really weird problem.
It started one night when I was just rebooting my computer cause my sound was fucked up (unrelated problem) and it wouldn't start again. Every time Windows was done loading and I was coming to the login-screen I got a bluescreen and my computer just rebooted itself. After some fiddling around it told me it was my overclock settings that wasn't working and I that I should set them back to default. I did and then it worked.
Problem is I've never touched my clock settings. Now, it worked fine for one day and then it started happening again. So I went into BIOs and loaded my default settings again and rebooted, but still the same problem. I figured it was my CPU's fault again so I decreased the Bus/Core ratio from 9 (max) to 8 and it worked. But now my CPU is underclocked.
So if anyone knows what the problem might be feel free to tell me. There's no problem with the temperature of the CPU.

I'd check out bulld0gs explanation first though :)
Could it be something poorly assembled (no offence :D:D), or just defect hardware?
If you can't figure it out software-wize, I'd really try to isolate the CPU (e.g. by putting it into another machine) and see if it worked there.
if nothing works (dont know how good you are with pc's) reset CMOS and get your cpu out off the tray once so it will reset (new cpu detected etc, new settings), put your cooler and new cooling paste on it.
Also give your full specifcations. Because without knowning your motherboard for example there isnt much we can do.
Also
run memtest
run prime95 (4core edition)
use coretemp to watch your temps
or hwmonitor.
hdtune for checking your hdd's
Test it all..
And did you tested everything? And whats your conclusion? What are your specifications?
Because most problems with pc's are.
- the user
- heat problems ( what you dont have )
- memory
- motherboard
- power supply too weak or B brand.
You need to eliminate everything first to be sure if its really your CPU. And if you really think its your cpu add some vcore like Nonix said and than test again..Its all about the testing.
