not really.. you'll be able to play older games like quake3 (thus you can also play ET) though
you talking about the nVidea Quadro NVS 140M
Parent
no im talking about 8400gs, no idea about that quadro card, but quadros aren't for gaming usually, desgined for graphics work

edit:

"Based on the GeForce 8400M G or GS for notebooks, the Quadro NVS 140 was designed for the business sector providing enhanced compatibility and stability. Regarding performance it should be comparable to a 8400 G or GS, but, might rate a little lower, because of a "more stable" driver. So, the NVS 140M provides entry-level 3D performance."

ow ye I can order these ones via my school so that explains but gonig to buy another one do you think the nVidia GeForce 8600M GS met 512MB GDDR2 is better?
Parent
Try to get one with 256mb GDDR3 instead. GDDR3 > GDDR2.
Parent
aint the 512 mb better?
Parent
No, because the GDDR2 bandwidth is the bottleneck, not the size of the memory. Actually, having more memory won't give you any performance boost at all when it comes to rendering. It's only when you encounter a game that actually uses more than 256 mb of the texture memory.
I've never seen that yet, but I haven't been looking hard either. You're better off with 256 fast megabytes then with 512 half-empty slow megabytes.

k mate thanks

But be careful though, don't buy the cheapest stuff you can find with that GFX card. Then you're likely to run into a lot of overheating troubles and stuff and generally bad quality.

I was really lucky when I bought mine.. I have one of the heftyest Thinkpad T61ps available, 14inch with Quadro 570M (= GF8600GT) and the heftyest Core 2 Duo available. Normally there's no wai i could afford it, but the non-widescreen models were going out of production so they sold them at way under half price :p

But top-specced laptop which never overheats and has 5hrs battery life, built like a tank and still comes at a relatively handy size... <3<3<3
Parent
lucky you ;) hehe
Parent
can you game with a 15''? beause those are cheaper and already equiped with the nine series of nvidea?
Parent
Well you can, and I would buy a 15 inch, or even 14 inch(which I did) over a 17 inch any time. The portability of a 15 inch > the screen size of a 17 inch. 17 inch laptops are often crap when it comes to qualities like mobility, battery life, etc.
And besides, I have a 19" widescreen TFT that I use for gaming :)
Parent
the nine series of nvidea says more to me:p but with the 8 series I can also play any game that I want not?
Parent
hm.. What card in the 9-series and what card in the 8-series is the options?
Parent
wait I'll give you the site. http://www.xxodd.nl/
check the 17'' and the 15''
I got another lil question, I know the GDDR3 is better then the two but on the site you'll see that I don't have the ption of GDDR3. Isn't it well able to play games with GDDR2?
Parent
uhm.. even tho i don't know dutch i see that there are more of both the 17 and 15 inches.. Which models in particular?

can you check the vid cards for me :$
I think I can build the rest so that it's a fine computer
Parent
I think 8600GS will have better performance than 9300, although 9300 may support more standards. I don't know.

Both will kick ass at ET anyways :P
Parent
k :p got alot of information now tnx man!
Parent
this'll be the one :p

Sounds nice! Grats!
Parent
crysis easily uses over 256, most newer games do.. but you're right though. probably won't be playing crysis with slower bandwidth 512mb 8600GT or a faster 256mb 8600GT anyway.
Parent
I have a quadro 570 M, which is basically the same chip as GF8600M GT
Parent
I heared that 8400M GS & 8600M GT are damaged or smhtn and it can overheat :|
