how to crack a winrar password ?

i downloaded a file but there was no password :/


i heard that a program like "Brute force" can crack that pw....but that doesnt rly work :o

brute force is a technique not a program, it tries all the possibilities that you can have and is hereby different from word recognition or other techniques

It's just a technique that tries all the possible characters, digits to get the password in that way, it takes a lot of time and a good processor speeds it up but usually you don't find any passwords bigger than 5 characters and if there are numbers or anything in it, it takes even longer

Brute force is more of a method than a program. It means that instead of using software that decodes the password, you either guess the password yourself by trying every possible password you can think of or get a program to do it.

which takes a lot of time or even never-ending if the password is strong enough with punctuations, numbers, small letters and Capital letters in it.

if the password is longer then 6 characters it takes 17 years if you test 300000 possibilities every second

It wouldn't be neverending, although it might take longer than the life-span of the universe. You could use a quantum computer, but it strikes me as a little extravagant to invent such a thing solely crack a winrar file.

It's really hard to say. If the password is a dictionary word then it might only take a few minutes to crack with a bute force technique, but if it has a plethora of randomnly arranged special characters, it could take years. You might as well download a cracker, let it run, and then start downloading the file again.

I'd recommend checking the site where you got the file for comments / information or googling the filename.

I think that's a virus, since WinRAR files have not been opened up by using anything else than the real password yet, as far as I know
