Linux install

need someone who's familiar with Ubuntu and could spend a little time on helping me with it. my main problem is to get the Wlan working. without having any driver for the usb Wlan stick installed Linux detects my network but after entering the WEP key I don't get a connection.
i heard something about NDISwrapper which allows you to install the windows drivers. tho i have no clue how to use it!

pm me here please!

suggests that you dont need ndiswrapper, its working already...

not sure how to fix it though, im afraid
oh noes! a friend of mine invested many sleepless nights in getting his wlan properly up and running for university. as long as you are not using vpn-tunnels (especially cisco-clients) it should not be that bad.

good luck!
anybody knows if any linux distro supports the onboard VIA SATA RAID controllers?

never was able to instal linux because of my onboard raid controller.
had the same prob for a long time and couldn´t find a solution, now i got another mainboard ...

think I'll just plug in a 20 GB IDE disc or smth (got to look what I have), so I can use that for testing with linux.

VIA SATA RAID onboard controller is basically just proprietary software raid in disguise, and there are no drivers for linux for that :(
Either get a real raid controller (with a real one you don't need any drivers, the disks will appear as one to the OS without any special interfacing required), or use the Linux software raid. I've used the latter, works like a charm. However it might not be compatible with the VIA SATA RAID, so if you have a lot of data on the VIA-Raid you won't be able to access it.

try asking for help on the ubuntu forums, the community there should be able to provide you with help fairly quickly.

Don't use ndiswrapper unless you really have to. It's ugly.
Do you use the GUI network thingy?
Remember that there might be a difference between WEP passphrase, ASCII-key and HEX-key.
