The problem with Vai, Satriani and others alike is that it's nice to hear a guy that's playing stunningly good but not for too long. They all have amazing skills but it gets boring really quickly. The only solo guitar master I saw&heard that really was interesting all the time was Tommy Emmanuel.

ofc we know him, he is playing from time to time with Les Claypool (bass guitar player from Primus, also sick guy). there are some good songs in the album enter the chicken (produced by serj tankian) and in population override too.
