Depends on the song m8. On some songs I would agree with you, but songs like "Web of Lies" or "Loser" are inargueably ingenious, technically- as well as melodic-wise spoken.

You certanly should! You'd be (positively) surprised, I can guarantee you that! Try listening songs composed together with for example Mikael Åkerfeld (Opeth) if you like technical. Try looking for the songs with famous artists if you prefer melody over technique.
