My upgrade plans

since my pc is really old, slow and shuts itself down when it has to make an effort, i decided a while ago to upgrade my current system.
now there are a few questions i'd like to ask.

info's
AMD:
AMD Phenom X3 8450
Foxconn A6VMX
2 GB DDR2-800
€ 149,- (got cheaper today, used to be 170)

Intel:
Intel® Core 2 Duo E7200
Foxconn A6VMX
2 GB DDR2 - 667 (PC2 - 5300)
€ 169,-


Graphics:
Sapphire HD3870 (normal fan cooler) € 99,

Sapphire HD3870 Ultimate (passive cooling) € 119,-

this one is said to be quite big and might take 2 slots, but changing mainboard wont be a big problem if it's worth it.

so...
Amd or intel?
would a 450W battery be enough to feed this?
what graphics card?
(im assuming this will easily keep 125fps stable in ET, but please correct me if i'm wrong)

well my budget is around 400
for:
-processor
-mainboard
-memmory
-battery
-Sata2 harddisk

i plan to run ET on 125fps, and UT3 on whatever.
not really looking for the best of the best and a highend system, but a good rig for a decent price.

i could post full specs i looked up myself if you want, also was planning to go for the intel kit, but i noticed amd got cheaper so dunno now ^^

Ok, Well it’s hard to say Intel would be the better option but the ram with the AMD is a little bit better since ET is mostly CPU based game its really up to you, maybe try to find a nice motherboard that is compatible with a higher spec of ram, check out dabs.com or scan. I can recommend a cheap motherboard that can run high specs etc but only lacks over clocking availability.

from what i have heard the ATI (for example the HD3870) has the best value for money, so why suggest nvidea?

I have had both I prefer nvidia others may agree and others won’t. The support for nvidia is a little bit better but it’s really up to you. Imo Nvidia have always be one step ahead of ATI but there have been some arguments that ATI crossfire it better than nvidia’s SLI (two gfx cards running back to back at the same time). Read some GFX forums they should help you make a final decision. Also note I am not saying what its better it’s really a matter of opinion on this case both companies are evenly matched and mostly rely on what experiences you have had on each card

well i read an article that nvidea is now focussing on the best of the best, and ATI is more trying to get a better price.

i already looked at some nvidea cards in the shop, and their all above the price i want to spend, so my question was more wich of these 2 (or something better near this price (budget of 130€ for graphics card)

Sapphire HD3870 Ultimate looks quite nice to me. Good price to if your swaying towards ATI then go for it mate.

there the problem is,it's cheap => the cooler sucks. i bought x1950pro as Sapphire and i could not play "better" games than ET,coz if i liek played 20minutes crysis my monitor just went blank (reason for this was that the graphic card was overheating,and it's stock,liek no overclocked etc) so that did not feel so nice. liek you buy new graphics' and you can't play with it...

well all the others are fine exp Sapphire. if i remember this right asus was liek 30€ expensive than sap so there is better fan.

are you gonna buy that HD?

Reason for that could have also been PSU, lack of proper ventilation in your case. All things that you disregard because your knowledge of the subject is minimal to none.

Second point, most ATI cards are done to ATI specs, meaning little variation between manufacturers. Sapphire happens to be manufactured by one of the largest companies in that field.

i've had 3 sapphires,and 2 of them has burned. so plz, do not come to me and say sapphire is good..

The thing is, you seem to know shit about hardware in general, so if you have had bad experiences doesn't mean they are bad overall.
