fair enough, I'd be pissed as well but kicking the referee is the stupidest thing you could do

Rules are rules. The fighter was clearly told the remaining time, and he was not up when it ended, correct call.

I understand that rules are rules, but rules are nothing without common sense.

Admittedly I don't watch the sport, or know what the usual procedure is, but following the commentators explanation, it seems that in 99.9% of cases the referee will let the fighter know when time is up and then get the fight underway, or if the fighter can't continue, call the fight off.

What the referee did here was in the rules, yes, but it was harsh and without common sense.

even if it was a wrong descicion (what i don't think, look at how the fighter jumped up, he was obvioulsy trying to kill some time), it's still no reason to attack the ref. He could have appealed it like everyone else can. The guy is lucky if doesn't have to stay in a Beijing prison, charged for assault :D. I don't know if a lifetime ban is justified, but he should at least be as long banned as doping users.
