Parent

Parent
still got my trusty 7950GT :)

hey shorty it's your birthday !
Firstly consider if you would be better with quad or dual core.

With Ram and Power supply sometimes corsair just put their name on some random shit company’s products make sure they are reliable.

See if Asus motherboard overheats some of their boards only use a shit heatsink.

Good choice over Antec 900 (dust magnet)
I don't know that much about PSUs, but for ram I know that corsair are reliable, I pretty much always take them, and on ebuyer XMS2 had the best timings compared to ocz/kingston (for the price) so decided to go with them once again

do you think my cooler is good enough to push the q6600 to say, 3.2/3.4ghz?
Parent
A friend of mine clocked his to ~3 with a 15 quid arctic with no problems.

E8400 would be better imho
Parent
you fucking nerd :DDDD

dont give a fuck about your pc, go watch some ninja-anime shit
agree, good psu btw, (although i do have the 520W HX version or smt)

but cpu cooler needs to be arctic cooler pro 7

Gotta say the Q6600 is an awesome processor, quite handy having 4 cores ( if you know how to use task manager well)
Figured I'd do some quick researching to see if I could make a decision

QuoteIn choosing between either the Corsair VX550W or the Corsair HX520W a user will not go wrong no matter which unit they settle on as the overall performance of both units is excellent. For users looking for the absolute best performance the choice is clear, the VX550W. At $99.99 the VX550W features the better voltage regulation, higher peak efficiency, excellent DC output quality, and is the better value. For users looking for the most premium experience the choice is clear, the HX520W. At $124.99 the HX520W features the quieter sound profile, modular cables, excellent DC output quality, and is priced in line with its premium feature set. At the end of the day raw performance is the first and most important feature of any power supply so the less expensive VX550W with its better voltage regulation asserts itself as the better performing unit but only by a hair and does not the full feature list of the HX520W.

I think the VX550 will be enough for me, I don't need modular cables and I can live with the louder sound profile... I think I should be fine
Parent
gotta say tho, I really noticed how much quieter my PC was when I put the 520W in ;)
Parent
q6600:D?
switch corsair ram to something cheaper if possible. i'd also choose q9450/q9550 over q6600
dont have the money
Parent
Tryed www.aria.co.uk seem decent on prices but ebuyer are also gd and postage for 5 days super saver or whateva came in about 2 days :D
You're doing it wrong.
E8400 + Abit IP35 PRO or IX38
Mugen Infinity < Noctua NH-U12P / Gemin II
Switch to G.SKill memory and buy a better case.
Thought about E8200 but decided against it :|
now im not sure though

do i need a "pro" case?

why G.Skill memory? I've never even heard of them, so I would need proof that they are superior to corsair/kingston ;_;
Parent
Cheap and good :D

Good case is often better if you want to OC.
Parent
afaik CPU Cooler is the main factor for cpu overclocking?
Parent
The main probably but you can lose something like 5-10°C with a good case for CPU, 10°+ for GFX same for mobo. I'm not sure but something like that.
Parent
Just don't think I can spare the money :\
Parent
Something like that http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127584 seems better in term of performance / quality and it's not so expensive, as you want :)
Parent
Scythe Mugen actually outperforms NH-U12P, is cheaper, downside is slightly louder though?

Parent
First time i see Mugen > Noctua @full speed but why not after all :)

So yes, Mugen seems better in fact : cheaper for the same result.
Parent
p5k = shit, buy something else instead.
Make a suggestion then?
Parent
I've been satisfied with my Abit IP35 for a ~year now so maybe go with it. Only downside is the soundchip which is some shitty Realtek production, but Soundblasters are cheap nowadays.
Parent
Whats wrong with p5k particularly? And soundcard doesn't bother me, I don't intend to use onboard sound.
Parent
Tbh I don't exactly remember anymore. :-D I was gonna buy it too when I was thinking about buying my new PC, but then I read some Finnish computer forums and noticed how many complaints there were about p5k, I got scared and bought IP35 instead.

P5K can be a good choice, but IP35 is a safer one. If you wanna test your nerves and gamble with your money and test Asus's warranty system be my guest. ;p
Parent
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/144447 I've got this version and I rly dunno if there's a significant difference. If you've got the extra £10 you can ofc go for the more expensive one. At least don't buy the cheapest version.
Parent
According to some forums it might have problems with net card/soundcard/overlocking.

How about P5Q pro ?
Parent
do I really need iP45? :E
Parent
Don't really know. IP45 might have better overlockability but IP35 will do fine as well.

Of course it is newer but that doens't matter probably.
Parent
I have no personal experience but what i have read/heard It has good overclocability (factory-overlocked?) and should be a good option even though it's 1year old technology.
Parent
Got the old IP35 Pro and it's really good, anyway a lot better than my old one aka Gygabite GA-EP35C-DS3R
Parent
Don't buy a new case.
Use the old one like me :D
private message to AN1MAL,as he said,he is the overclocker here,he will help you coz he is so smart and shit. here he is =P oh boy he looks so... so... geek :DDDDDDDDDDxd
go for 4gb ram... cheap enough now
can always buy more if I need it
Parent
XP only uses 3GB
Parent
it's cheap, but also pointless
Parent
Get it while it's cheap!
