PunkBuster (no update)

Has anyone actually found a fix to the PB problems dropping FPS. I was doing a 1on1 on Valhalla and was lagging from 76fps to 10 fps :(... I'm just sick of the constant FPS DROPS!!! I installed ET on my old comp without Interwebz and I get a constant 76FPS no spiking...

1.7ghz...
512mb RAM
Geforce 440mx

Yet I'm running a much higher speced comp than this (laptop) and I get some shitty FPS drops :/... PunkBuster needs to cut down on the scans in the back, random CVAR checks is a bit of a nubby scan aswell.

Anyone got a fix YET?

I guess you haven't suffered this problem? No matter what skill you are, FPS lags get you killed and your anger levels raging. I guarantee you would get your ass kicked by a noob if you had FPS drops...

I had 1.4ghz / geforcemx440se / 512mb ram for years and had stable 75 and even 100 on most maps (minus radar).

Same system now, except got 1gig of ram and no fps drops at all.

Id get rid of the GV stream (i believe you can do that, but you wont be able to play CB officials i think)

Punkbuster doesn´t cause fps-drops, it causes lags .

I don't know but you do get more fps when u deinstall pb, for me it's around 60. So there probably is a fps drop due to the programs operations in the background. My guess, in your case, is that your PC just can't quite handle ET but I might be wrong, try deleting the PB folder and reinstalling using pbsetup.exe

=] Thank you INSTi for an actual reply... I have already tried this m8 I also have the problem with RTCW :(. My comp is more than able to run ET @ max settings yet I set @ low resolution and settings. I can reach 125fps NP but it never stays stable. I cap my FPS @ 10 and it still won't be stable, still drops :(.

Your profile says you have a Nvidea gfx card, do you have threaded optimization on? If so turn it off. Also try using the "Let 3D application decide" in the drivers.

Do the drops go away if you cvar_restart?

I have turned it off and tried it on :(, I always set to lowest to run COD4 and higher speced games. I have had no problems in the past when I used to play with this problem :(, even after new installs and new configs still everything stays the same :(.

O/S: Vista 32bit

There might also be a connection here. The tutorial section has an "ET under vista" guide. I suggest you read that and check if you've got it all right.

Try cleaning your PC. It reduced the lags PB gave me. I still experience them, but a lot less than before..

pb_sleep 500 might help you as well. But getting rid of useless files/movies/etc. you never watch anymore might do you more good. Also, try tweaking windows. There's a lot of tutorials on the internet available.

Turn off xfire ingame chat if you run it in the background, it causes fps drops even on good pcs.
