p2p at uni

leeds has this wank system that disables your internets if it detects a p2p program running. this includes torrents, this means i cannot download music nor tv shows

how can i fool these peons into thinking there are no programs running ?

vpn tunnel through server on the outside
some tools (like utorrent have that encrypt-thingy, maybe that helps too)
use limewire
gnutella network also uses p2p, so limewire/bearshare/kazaa/frostwire/and whatever there is more won't work.

if its a uni, go ask the students who learn computers :p
ask arni

edit: nice stealing image of the week! :)
quit uni
Best idea is too find a 3rd year who knows how to, or go find a ICT expert :D
Like skooli said, u can configure a vpn at your home pc or smth and then connect to your vpn (virtual private network... the data is encrypted.. its like a safe tunnel inside internet) using the uni's internet :)

google -> search
The first tip is to enable encryption on utorrent, that sometimes works. The second is to ask around and see if anyone knows the address of an internal school hub; the details aren't usually available online, thanks to IT staff continually shutting them down. At nottingham the hub didn't open until around 7 pm, an hour or so after the IT staff clock out, and it shut down at around 8am the next day. The info about the hub took a few months to disseminate, so even if no one you know has heard of it, it might still exist.

The main problem with the internal sharing is that you rely on everyone else having the content you want; if your tastes differ vastly from everyone else, or you're specifically looking for new content, or content that was just released, you're almost invariably shit out of luck. The speed, however, being fully internal LAN, is fucking awesome.

For new movies and TV shows I generally just stream, and during first year I found that, somehow, other people managed to obtain new game and software releases and post them on the internal hub.
