pc tech help needed

okay:

pc died, needed to format
deleted and created the partition - in windows via the disc i've got 2 x 200~ gb discs
installed ntfs on one partition, and on both (have tried both variables, same issue)
my bios sees hdd as 1 x 400~ gb disc
so, once it's installed ntfs on my partition, it reboots, but then i'm back to square one, in that if if i boot from disc i'm sent back to the same menu, and if i boot without disc i blue screen
if i try to install windows over ntfs it doesn't help

ideas?

someone mentioned something about raid but i've got no idea about it in all honesty, so i intend on seeing a professional if so

raid is driver inside windows imo
RAID is a sort of thingie which makes sure both your harddrivers work together, in a much faster way (usually). Try to install your RAID drivers.
don't have any :o(

Check if your motherboard supports RAID, if it does (probably will) you should have a CD which contains all sort of drivers, RAID is one of them.

take linux
well, my guess is a raid problem, basically he told me on the phone that his bios listed his drive as a single 400gb drive, whereas the windows installer sees two 200gb drives - thus causing a conflict?

if anyone thinks otherwise please let us know what it could be

that said, I would consider these three

1) find the name of your mobo manufacturer and put the raid drivers on a floppy to load with f6 in windows install

2) im guessing its motherboard raid, so checking your mobo manual and configuring the drives so they aren't in raid might work

3) buy a small 40/80gb harddrive or something so you can atleast play until you figure out how to get around the raid problem (cheaper than getting 'repaired')
yeah or he could disable raid in his bios and just use 1of the 200gb drives and disconnect the other until he can get raid drivers on a floppy . and if youve not got a floppy drive then you could do a nlite slipstream cd and intergrate the raid drivers that way which is best and faster for the next time anything goes wrong with the raid array.

RAID? Why? Windows installer sees 2 200gb partitions, not drives, I'm pretty sure. BIOS can't see 2 hard drives as 1, unless it's configured hardware raid.

well I'm not familiar with RAID, so it was just a guess. If he deleted all the partitions he could still only create a max 200gb partition as opposed to a 400gb which his bios claimed he should be able to... which is why I guessed it was raid related

what Meez said
If you have two hard drives, have you tried install windows with just one disc in?
square one - InI
remove the second HD and try again
It's a bit unclear what you did with your pc. A wild guess: you have 2 partitions and you are booting from old windows partition no matter what. Format both partitions if you have nothing to lose and install windows on primary one.
