"New" cpu

Got teh AMD DualCore Opteron 175 for my socket939 rig yesterday! I just broke the 4000points magical barrier @ 3dmark06 =D
superpi 1M = 37seconds [with fucked up memory, ain't bad...]
overclocking: stopped at 2500MHz, could go till 2800 (according to the stepping and manufacturing week on the top of the cpu), but not with the cooler i've got :< getting thermalright ultra120 soon!
costed 30 euros ;o

i'm gonna try to hit 2750 MHz as soon as i get the cooler... but don't think that would happen these days either. probably in a month or smth. :>
i just bought a complete pc for my sister, + this cpu. spent quite a lot of money (counting with the fact that i'm still a student without income + with the fact that i normally never buy anything special)

:> this is my first upgrade after 3 years having this computer. i don't need extremely high performance tho, i just wanted a reasonable one. maybe with this cpu i can keep this system for another 2-3 years (perharps with a better gfx card next year or smth. right now i have a 7800gt oc-d.)

:D i used to own a p1 133mhz for 7 years!
then switched to a p4 1.5ghz+geforce2mx400 for 4 years (7 fps @ et...). after that one i got my current configuration ;)

super pi 1M = 17.422s, but it doesn't even stress all 4 cores properly ;_;


I've had it at 3.6ghz (50% overclock LOL) semi-stable, but didn't benchmark super pi :(

set your OC back to default:

Change the ram to "333"

Multiplier to 4

leave the cpu Multiplier @ standard, prolly 11 i think

Now start oc'g in 10 FSB increments

boot up run super_pi_mod.exe and calculate 1M

if that passes run prime95 for 30 minutes

run a prog like everest in the background so you can monitor the vcore and the temps
It shouldn't go over 57°

btw you can start with 20+ fsb or so since your pc goes up to 2.5.
I hope you kinda get it, theres more stuff that could be explained
but I cba to mention it all, this is some basic info, on how to test how
high you can get your cpu, if you're ram and cooler are decent tho.
You should get 20-25% OC easily and if you get a hd4850 it'll run smooth enough, you'll prolly be able to play crysis with fairly decent settings :>

i know the basics, i've done exactly that before u've written the comment ;p but thx anyway:).... but my cooler is crap. the cpu came with a freezer64pro, but i was not able to hook it up. so i just use the normal freezer64 (that i used till now..) which is not so good....
gonna go for the thermalright with some nice papst fan i guess.
i also have to mention that my ram is bullsh1t aswell, samsung default pc3200. wont switch that tho.................

half an hour on prime, shouldn't go over 57 and ofc if you finally found the sweet spot you should test prime for at least 6 hours, wish I had money, I'd get a new cooler, my cpu prolly goes up to 3 or higher but I have other priorities atm :X

ultra120 hmm, cba to google that now, if it's a cooler tho. Was thinking about getting one from noctua or going water cooled. But I just have so many expenses that it's all gonna have to wait :/ anyways gl on your endeavors <- dunno if that word fits btw :P
