PC problem HELP HIM!

On sunday my pc wouldn't start properly, all the fans come on and the hard drive seems to be making the correct noises, but i get no beep and no image on the monitor. There was also a little electronicy smoke smell the second time to tried it, however I really don't think its the psu as I have had one blow before and this was different.

So can someone give me some tips on either what is broken or how to fix it without buying anything.

From google i found it could be the cmos battery, dusty ram, or just dust interfering with something, or something bigger which i hope not.

"There was also a little electronicy smoke smell"

that doesn't sound so good. :D
hoover the dust

mine stopped workin once cuz a load of shit got clogged in the heatsink/fans
hmm; do you have a spare computer w/ spare parts?

if you don't get an error via the mobo it could be that.
unfortunately not, all i have is stuff from my agp pc at home ( at uni am ), maybe when i go home ill take my gfx card home to test in my parents pc

If the CMOS battery was dead, I think it would still start up properly. I guess it could be a number of things. RAM and GFX card spring to mind but I'm not sure.
Idd, dead cmos battery will just reset ur mobo settings and time everytime you reboot. Imho your vid card is broken, as I usually still get an image on my monitor when I fuck up the hardware of my pc.

no "beep-Codes" ????
he means the mobo doesn't post or anything

i know rofl -.-

thats strange indeed. afaik the beep-"rhytm" normally indicates the error itself, right?
Parent
cpu, mobo or psu
Lets just say theres something wrong with his computer :D

turn on your system speaker, remove unnecessary cards/use just 1 ram dimm, try different memory banks, clear cmos... pretty much stuff to try
No beeps at all would most likely indicate a MoBo failure, a gfx card failure would usually trigger an error beep sequence.
If the components are getting power then I'd personally rule out a PSU failure, if in doubt get a multi meter across the connectors to test them.

Try taking components out one by one and see if you get anything at all (RAM, GPU).

Fwiw I had this with an Asus P5K motherboard 2 weeks ago, just died for no apparent reason :<
Smoke means it's working.
I second that.
