ET + pulseaudio + SDL sound

Hi guis!

I don't really get the ET sound working with pulseaudio.
I know, there are some workarounds which all require killing pulseaudio. as i'm using an USB headset i need pulseaudio to get TS/Vent working while playing et - so all these solutions won't work for me.
on the pulseaudio webpage there's a link to this site: http://nullkey.ath.cx/~stuff/et-sdl-sound/

i don't really want to get pbbanned, so could anyone over here tell me if pb allows this method?

Try using oss4.
If alsa doesn't support hardware mixing for your card put this in ~/.asoundrc

lol idiot
lol pulseaudio :(
it has always been working fine so far on my other pc.
switched to linux on my main sys just some days ago - fedora 9 - which got pulseaudio installed by default. have not yet managed to get vent working properly, same goes for ET.
anyway, as i got no soundcard which could manage multiple sound outputs, do you have any other soundserver suggestions?

not really, linux soundservers are a mess, only thing holding me back from moving fulltime (since i cant convince people to use mumble)

Try having a strict 24-bit-only 44100-hz-only USB-soundcard in addition to the onboard one and enjoy some hours of .asoundrc geeking!

bitches don't know about my ten year old soundblaster live (it's still better than the onboard realtek shit that most mobo manufactures use these days!)

Just buy cheap sblive 5.1 and you will have all the support you want...

If you want a better soundcard that is well supported just check in alsa list for hardware mixing...

most of the new cards supported w/o a problem.

and et-sdl-sound and pb have no problems.

Quotebitches don't know about my ten year old soundblaster live

but that doesn't fix the issue of ventrilo emulation, only being able to hear one person at a time, which is unacceptable.

with new vent use direct output sound
and you will hear everyone... the only down side is that the voice is a little bit hallow.

but thats an old wine bug.

mmm ill have to try again, when i finally get round to configuring my DE on my arch partition
Parent
A pointless incompatible mess of general redundancy, just like the rest of the operating system. :)
Parent
Just use plain alsa instead
et-sdl-sound used to give me some pretty weird side effects, like when doing a /cheaters my OS was displayed as [???]

it's just a tool like say the direct input tool that caused a few bans on windows recently, which were removed, i guess if et-sdl-sound did cause false positives the bans would be lifted
PB is fine with et-sdl-sound, and lots of people use it, so I doubt you'll ever get into trouble.
But good luck setting up ts/vent, I still can't get it to work :D
mumble ftw
idiot.
