USB problems

Hoi i bought myself a new pc with vista, but i got rid of it and installed xp pro instead.

Ive got some usb problems, the port im using for my mouse seems to be using low speed usb (1,5 mb) when it could be using hi-speed usb (480 mb) and my mouse performance is poor (mx518) i guess this could be the cause. i cant find any options in bios to set "hi usb speed"

Also i cant find any updates for my usb drivers, the driver info claim they are from 2001 and they look like this:

Universal Serial Bus controllers
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller

According to Sisoftware Sandra the name of my usb is Foxconn IXP SB600 usb controller, however i fail to find any updates, my pc is running xp pro with sp3

CPSKADAD???????????????????????????
shit happens
and i say wat wat
my pc doesnt support usb 2 either (and i thought it did), i had to install some pci 10 euro usb2 port. If your pc is old, then thats the problem...
USB 1.0 is used when you insert USB 1.0 device. Try plugging your mouse in different PCs and see if it's detected the right way. Try other ports.

P.S. USB 1.0 speeds are enough for mouse I guess.
but shouldnt usb 2.0 "support" be installed with sp3?

It's not software he's referring to. The actual USB ports have different versions with different speeds - depending on which USB version they're.

check if their is a chipset driver update
most likely the problem
ye i havent installed any chipset drivers cuz i dunno what to install

you need to download from the acer website, it will be under your motherboard drivers
Parent
hmm i did download something named "ATI" from their ftp before... but it didnt work well, only allowed me to install something called "southbridge IXP" or something like this... didnt do much
Parent
install new drivers for your motherboard
i dunno what drivers to install, pc didnt come with a cd :p

check above for speccs
Parent
Did buying a new computer fix the previous issue you had ? (that with sensitivity changing while playing)
no but i had old usb drivers on my old pc aswell, dunno if that is the problem but it worked for another guy here on crossfire, so i kinda hoped it would do the same for me :/

cpuz => check your mobo type and google the chipset drivers.

In this case you go to the asus site and look for K8N-E deluxe. I would only download the chipset drivers, before trying anything else.

check the chipset type and download them from intel/via/sis/nvidia/ati (most common chipsets) websites?
Parent
ye apperantly i got ATI, and i installed what i could, still didnt do anything to update my usb drivers

according to Sisoftware Sandra ive got foxconn usb... dunno what drivers i should get
Parent
your chipset is AMD 690V, now use cpu-z to find the manufacturer, it could be ECS, GB etc.

after 1 minute of google.
