My PC is not working help!

Today my Quadcore arrived and I installed it with the new Heatsink etc. All seemed to be fine until I booted my machine up, it came on ok(lights and fans started working) But I was not getting anything on the scree. So I double checked all the connections I even reseated my gfx card but still nothing!

I swapped my graphics card out and put my old Dualcore back in but its still the same! I also removed my RAM bit by bit but that still did not work!

I was not getting any error beeps but then I noticed I don't actually have a speaker:<

So what could it be? I am thinking my motherboard is screwed!

Thanks

reset bios/cmos!
I left the bloody thing at work so I will have to try tomorrow! I dunno how to do that tho lol

EDIT: HI
Parent
you can do this by removing the little battery on your mobo for 1 minute or by finding the mobo jumper reset and fuse it with a screwdriver or some other metal object (do the first one if you dont have a fucking clue what im talking about in the second or check ur mobo manual to find out what a jumper is and which one you need. By fusing the jumper i mean you should connect the two pins of the jumper with a metal object so they make contact, or just put a black jumper thingy on it if you have one lying around. they are found on the back of your old ATA hd's :) This should clear the bios settings and put everything back to default.

I had some mobo issues too, but most mobo today got leds telling you if theres an error and what kind of error. Not getting any screen is usually related to the ram chips. Figure out which slot is nr 1. Todays mobo's need you to put two exactly the same chips in slots with the same colour.

Check if you plugged in all power supplies into your mobo / vid card. Todays mobo's use two powersupplies to the mobo, my ati9800 uses a powersupply intended for cd or hd drives. Also check if you didnt fuse your mobo to the case, there should be something in between the case and the mobo, i once screwed a mobo onto the case and burned it.

Otherwise i dont got a clue. gl!

I will try the first option out, and the Ram is in the right slots. So looks like my only option is a Bios reset.
Parent
when i went single to dual core pc would not boot so i reset the bios and it worked. Also does your current bios version support quad core?
Parent
Silly question but do I take the battery out with my pc on or off? I just drove to work to try this lol
Parent
OFF

fucking OFF

way to make this guy lose out on a Darwin

19:20:21 ( unblind ) do you think he was joking
19:20:35 ( unblind ) imo if he doesnt post in the next hour, he tried it with it powered on
Parent
Sadly I was 100% serious but I would not try it unless I was 100% sure
Parent
pc off .. you dont want any power (cable or battery) on the pc so the bios memory wont work :D should have mentioned that :D

so ur trying to cut the power to your mobo, by removing the battery while the power cable is disconnected :DDDDDDD
Parent
Ok done that with everything off and its not worked:X
Parent
Ah, ur still alive. Good. Well, it could be a lot of things. The reason they put the leds on those mobo's is cause its a total bitch if theres something wrong but your screen isnt working so ur screwed.

So m8. I usually waste too much time on fixing such a thing and the solution is allways some weird stupid thing. gl

dunno, just wanted to say hi!
Can you tell Gungy I can't play for a few days until this is sorted:<
Parent
i think he figured that out already, im with you man ;D
Parent
im sorry kip :(
greet your mom though :D
mobo / ram
hm doesn't have to be the mobo, try this:

turn off PC completely, remove gfx card, turn on pc

wait 30 secs then turn it back off completely, plug gfx in and turn on

If you're lucky it's just a bug, had that a few times as well when I switched gfx

gl

e: use the power switch on the back. Also try putting it in different pc if it works update the bios from that pc, some mobo's fail on quadcore with older bios versions
Have you connected the 12v 4 pin cpu connector ?
The one from the heatsink?
Parent
Theres a big white powerconnection to the mobo, about 12 blocks or so? He's referring to the second white powerconnection, which is a small rectangular connection, made up of 4 pins, it should also be connected to the mobo.

2 energy for mobo
maybe 1 for the vid card, dont have a clue not up to date with todays hw :P
Parent
Ok I have the big connection but also a 4 pin connection going to my gfx card. there is an 8 pin connection but im not sure if that was plugged in before or not.
Parent
Nope. Look at your mobo manual. It is normally named JPWR2 and provides power to the cpu. Block of 4 connector, Located near to the cpu - placement differs dependant on mobo. What Mobo do you have?

L33t reply skills i have :)
could be that your mobo only supports dualcore.. you should have updated bios before you installed the new cpu

now:
install the old cpu and reset bios like overdrive said..
now if the pc works again with the old cpu try to find a way to update your bios with the latest version that supports your new cpu
install new cpu
ET misses you :'(
Parent
wederzijds :'(
Parent
It won't boot up on the old cpu :<
Parent
you have to leave the bios battery out for a while btw, dont put it back in immediately
Parent
AHAHAHA!

It was the 8 pin connection I had unplugged and forgot I did it ROFL!!

THANKS ALLOT!

One more thing how do I update my bios and or know its at the right level?
see mobo manual for supported cpu's
if your new cpu isn't supported you should update bios

check the manual again to see how to do that :p because that depends on your type of motherboard
Parent
Ah, ur still alive. Good. Well, hope you have hours of fun with new system!

Got my own going this morning but need to "validate" xp so i can update + install audio chipset drivers

still dling :!
