My new Lovely laptop

Yey !

Yesterday my gf came back home with black something...yes It was laptop !
It's a 5 years old example of good old times.Size is same as modern ones though.

it's Celeron 1.3 ghz ,astonishing 196 megs of ram ! my god, this thing could cause a power shortage in Paris if connected to mains :>
Windows hasn't been changed since its first install...must have been 2005 .
It took me 4 hours to make it work. When I first turned it on It took 20 minutes
to start windows (XP home). It turns out that one single Norton 360 needs more
ram than my little fellow has ! So when I looked at task manager/performance there
was 320 mb used out of 196 available. bye bye norton, problem sorted .

Now I can lay in bed and browse web, talk to friends on msn,and it's all for free,I didn't pay a penny.Person who gave it to me thought that long load times meant end of it's life.
It's good to know the basics.

"Yesterday my gf came back home"

pic or it never happened!
toxic stuff
My dell XPS laptop > all tbfh ! :D
download ubuntu linux and use that for the laptop. it will run twice as fast and as long as you arent playing games on it its perfect for inet - messenging etc. Installing it is really easy and it runs a lot faster compared to winXP on a celeron with 192 ram :DD

Or tweak some services. You can prolly disable a lot of stuff you dont really need like the services for automatic updating, indexing, printer service etc

gl!
I bought my gf about two years a ago a laptop for 400 US dollars. Only bout 20G hard drive and I can't remember RAM atm. Although it was old and used already, my GOD that was a good laptop. Ran XP faster than my Hewlett packard!
I believe it was an IBM one, if someone knows em the ones that have a red touchpad button on the center.
