from what my friends have told me, the touch screen messes up very quickly, even one of my buddies who took excellent care of his ipod touch (and rarely used it) told me the screen started losing its sensitivity about 3 months after he bought it.
Nano, on the other hand, has been complaint free so far, though I'm sure somebody will eventually whine about the small screen :DDDDDDD
nano! like nemesisblkadder said: the touchscreen of the Touch gets fucked up pretty easy. but if i would buy a new ipod, i'd go for the 80gb classic. the 160gb is too fat imo

i don't know if the touchscreen of the touch is the same as the screen of the iphone...
if it is... i haven't had any complaints on my iphone so i guess it's ok.
i would pick nano anyway...
