Noisy CPU fan

A few months ago I assembled a PC for my dad, with some of the old parts of my previous PC. Everything runs smoothly, runs way faster than his older PC. Except for one (extremely) annoying issue:

The CPU fan makes tons of noise. It's kinda like the "CPU-fan-sound" you hear when you boot up your PC.

Already checked Everest: temps are fine (44 °C), fan runs at ~ 3915 RPM (normal afaik). Afaik the fan is installed correctly, doesn't overheat or anything like that. Just switched the cpu to another mobo since my old one exploded, and that's where the problems started.

Is there any way I could adjust the fanspeed of my CPU (not that wisely though since that would increase the temp, duh) or just get rid of this annoying sound?

Specs:
- stock INTEL cpu fun
- P4 CPU (3.00 Ghz)
- 1 GB ddr2 ram
- ATI radeon x600 128 MB

thx in advance

did you try to clean the cooler already? from my personal experience, pcs need to be clean atleast 1x 4in4 months...
He didn't use the PC up till now (6 months), and when I first assembled the PC, the fan was spotless but also kept on making the same noise.

isn't it normal @ start pc makes more noise? atleast mine does. why your old explode? o_0 aaaaaaaaaaaaand (dutch) loopt er iets aan of wat?(/dutch)
3915 is extremely hard afaik?
buy akasa ak-965 cooler for 15 eur, it's quiet and cools well
I'd prefer knowing the cause of this problem before I actually start spending money on a pretty old system.

maybe the fan is just fucked up? if you have any spare ones laying around of the same size I recommend trying it out (don't take the heatsink off)
Parent
Still have one somewhere but it was/is used on a P3, doesn't really matter, or does it?
Parent
if its from the same cpu cooler then it should be fine
Parent
eh? what do you mean?
Parent
HeH, put a dick in da fan u fag :D
clochard
4000 rpm is the problem..
my cooler runs @ ~1800rpm:D it gives and error at start but for the rest its superduper
1200RPM reporting

meh, I could go lower :)

q6600 idling at low 20's

i was watching my bios and for like a half a second it went to ~17xx and the numbers turned into red all the sudden:D
Parent
just hit him hard np
Some BIOS's have settings that control the fanspeed. Afaik Intel has a technology that slows down the fan, when the PC doesn't work hard. There's also Software that lets you adjust the fan speed (Speedfan).
Tried with another fan, made the same amount of noise....;

cant seem to change my fanspeed in speedfan .... :<

the bearing is shot imo. buy a new fan. they are cheap.

if you don't you risk it breaking and then your CPU might burn. and 44 seems high imo
lol mine was 85+ still works
Parent
had the same problem. but it was long long ago, the blades where uneven or something so it didnt turn straight it pulled to the left or something. as i said was long ago cant clearly remember what the shop guy said
edit look @ fred comment i think it was that
dl speedfan and control the speed of them
you can reduce the speed of the fan and with such a low temp having a 60-70 temp wont kill the pc, especially if it's not a gaming pc(duhh, sry, but i have to say it; retardish comment by u)
4000 rpm = normal? not really

running here at 1500, doesnt hear it. Install other cpu-cooler or slow it down with speedfan
lower the fan speed to about 2000rpm
Can't change the fan speed in my BIOS (pretty old mobo) + when i lower the fan speed in speedfan, it just puts them back to 30 %
Parent
chances of trying in that mobo with other fan?
Parent
tried that, runs as fast + loud.....

are u sure speedfan can change the fanspeed of any sort of fan/cpu/mobo.....
Parent
no no try on that mobo with another fan to see if it happens the same
Parent
THATS EXACTLY WHAT I DID AND IT DIDNT HELP

NOW TELL ME HOW THE FUCK DO I CHANGE THESE FREEKING TEMPS

tried everything, but whenever i hit OK and return to the main menu the speeds are set back to 30 %
Parent
they come lose and the ball berrings inside it make it rattle, it just happens with some fans, you can buy a new one for like a few euro
I can clearly hear the "air", if you know what I mean. It doesn't make any noise like it's loose or smth.... it makes the same noise you hear when you load a very big application / boot your PC..
Parent
try using rivatuner to change the fan speed, it saves the fan speed for sure
Parent
dont use the orginal fan =)
use the fake!
