Decoding movies

Good morning. Im currently working on a new How to decode "Tutorial" and i though about use fddshow,coreavc and some random music decoder instead of a codec pack, because some people likes to complain about codec packs (hi2u2 meez and alexl).


What would you prefer? Im coding (or atleast trying xD) a tool that downloads the decoders from internet and installs them (will take time.. im still learning how to.. its a university project).

all you need to play a HD movie is: coreavc , fddshow, ac3filer and media player classic.. K-lite installs this (and even more) except coreavc (we can download it manually), so why it sucks?

Thats a bad argument...

first on the settings for the encoders @ k-lite pack sux
most of the things in the "(and even more)" stuff is unnecessary and will lower the performance
u need to download manually more codec's to play hd material in a good way.
coreavc is lowering the video quality to gain performance.(coreavc is best used for low performance pc's)
u can get problems with ur encoding software if u use k-lite pack.

but in the end its what u prefer i would not recommend k-lite pack

1st, when you are decoding a movie, it will only used the needed decoders (means that the "other stuff" from k-lite pack wont be used).
2nd thats why i use .reg files at my "tutorials" to configure the decoders properly.
3rd my "tutorials" are made for everyone (it means it must work with low or high pcs).

ok i though we talked about k-lite pack and not about your tutorials.
For those who don't want to put in any effort in to there decoding and maybe don't own a hdtv your tutorials are very good.

cccp is probably the "best" codec pack you will find, I'll never use it myself but it's atleast the only one I will recommend it to non-techie friends

People who are intelligent enough to know that codec packs are bad, are also intelligent enough not to need a program that download everything they need.

Im sorry if everyone around isnt that intelligent like you... Seems you dont know crossfire users.. everyone is lazy / dont care how.. they just want the final result using the easiest way

Well, I know that everyone is lazy / don't care, thus they really enjoy codec packs. When you decide that you don't want a pack anymore, you are willing to spend some time to search and download what you need. As a matter of fact, I don't understand why you want to do this anyway, "some people likes to complain about codec packs" but they are the same people that won't care about what you do because they don't need it ...

well yeah.... but obviously download single decoders is better that codec packs... i have been using codec packs to make it easier for the user... but now i think i have a larger possibility using code to make the "tutorial"

I don't know about your coding capacities, but maybe you could think of doing your own codec pack rather than something downloading everything from various places on the internet (dead link ? slow speed ? etc)

dont think it would be possible for now :< im still in the very early stage of c# :< i might be able to do something like i sended at pm but nothing more.. atleast now for now.. but as i said its a project.. i wanna use it to keep improving the program/my skills during the next months / years.

Personally i prefer K-lite pack because it comes with everything u said.
Anyway why haali's splitter when u have coreavc+fddshow?

I cant code anything multi os's because im using c# (hi2u2 microsoft).
