Was just wondering mate, I'll be buying a new PC after christmas :)

As for suggestions, i found some nice prebuilt setups from EasyPC. Not sure how reliable they are, but their ebay page has like 99% positive comments.

Go for quad, get a 4870 512mb, 2gb 4-4-4-12 RAM, get P5Q mobo, your looking at 500-600 and the rest can be spent on a nice case.

You have them build it for you mate, just click computers and modify your needs.
Parent
They are a reliable company to order from?
Parent
Yep, ordered 12am and received it the next day, nice delivery fast and reliable. They are the cheapest around.
Parent
Nice to know mate, cheers. :)

Basically my setup, I love it, 4850 is a great card, never tried the 4870 but it might be worth the extra cash?
you tried any recent games on it? :DDD

crysis or anything? :pp
Parent
I havent no, cod4 would be the most, in sp got around 125 sometimes dropped to around 90 but very playable with all settings on full and anti analysing the lot, oblivion, S.T.A.L.K.E.R all run perfect ;D

And sorry I only have an e6700

EDIT: Meant to say had cod4 capped 125...

CPU and GPU are fine..

640gb, is cheaper and faster (or 2x320 bcuz of RAID0?)

mobo is not on your list (i'd recommend ASUS P5Q-series)
watch out when you'll search for a decent memory (few known brands as Corsair, Crucial, TeamGroup, Kingston, Geil.. will do the job)

btw what about PSU?

Samsung S223F - 22x DVD+/-/RW - 8x Dual Layer - Sata - Black - Retail - 19p
Sapphrie HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TVO/Dual DVI, HDMI, PCI Express - 128p
Samsung Spin Point F1 SATAII 640GB 16Mb Cache Hard Drive <9.0ms 7200rpm - 45p
Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX Dominator 4GB DDR2 800Mhz Non-ECC- 66p
Asus P5Q Pro - Intel P45 Chipset - Socket 775 - PCI Express - DDR2 - 106p
Corsair Memory 650W TX SERIES ATX - 75p
Intel Q6600 95Watt G0 Stepping 4 x 2.40Ghz 8Mb Cache 1066 FSB - 147p
Antec Three Hundred Case - Black - No Psu - 50p

= 636p (ask about setup, mostly is free atleast here)
* you can take http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SAP-4870 if you wanna spend the rest of your money (700p as you said)
Check my specs, nice choice of mobo, great for OVC and general use on a budget.

nice rig but why 2x4870X2?

I do extreme graphical design for college.

the 0 stands for the amount of data recoverable after a crash
Parent
can't agree more, never tried if its really that much faster than single one
Parent
Processor: Intel Quad Q6600
Graphics: 4870 512MB
Memory: Any Crucial/Kingston (2-4GB)
Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro
700w Powersupply
200-500GB HD.

Thats it, and order from the website I said.
/disagree with quad
Parent
Whats the reason Panix? I have been using it recently and by god is it amazing. The new games are being released for Quad, for example GTA4.

The games are stop using Dual Core now, so time for an upgrade whilst you can, don't go back to old technology.
Parent
dual core is more than fine to cope with the lates games imo like for example cod4 is dual only (afaik) and pricewise for a basic quad you could get a very nice dual setup
Parent
With the P5Q mobo you can easily get the quad to 3-4ghz, but why stick with now instead of being future proof?

Why run 2 cores at a lower frequency than 4 cores with higher frequency.
Parent
yeh i see what your saying quads are good but for a budget i dont think it would be worth spending that extra cash on a cheepish quad for games that wont be coming out for 4 years or so when by that time the quad will probably be outdated
Parent
i built him 1 np
Like 3 day late reply but check out PC Specialist, they're pretty decent.
