Why do the trains here suck?

So 1 week here in London and i have already decided that your train system is terrible. At first i was like this is mad! you didn't have to go all the way into the city to get another train line (see http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/maps_stations_stops/metropolitan_trains ) and they ran every few minutes which was amazing compared to the usual 15 minute waits i was use too. BUT every time i get on somewhere, there is some signal failure, some escalators being upgraded, no changing at certain stations and the fact that on weekends there is maintenance everywhere.
Anyway I'm asking for ideas on what to do again, and hopefully this time it wont turn into a beer thread.
I've been to the national gallery, aquarium (I love aquariums don't know why), Tate modern and a few other places. Is there anything in particular I should do? I have plans to check out a few museums but besides that not much else planned.
IDEAS PLEASE.

I LIKE HEINEKEN AND IM NOT PROUD OF IT!
Most trains down south are Virgin who have shite customer service or transpennine both have nice modern trains but shite maintanace and service standards.
British Library and Museum are probably worth a mention. Though, I haven't been to either myself.

It's shit they spend so much money in London which leaves not right much for other cities' transport.
