Ubuntu help again ! :D

After putting 2 hours afford into reading through any possible forum, I managed it to get my WLAN stick detected and finally connected to the Router.

At least I though it...

Now I cant ping the router nor access any site from the internet.

When I do Iwconfig the following stuff, which looks pretty well at the first place, appears:

Quote
**********@ubuntu:~$ iwconfig

lol no wireless extensions.
to fix this problem simply

install windows.
Iam writing from windows, but for playing without PB Linux is the only way to go : )
Parent
Seriously there is no problems with PB running on windows.

Also if you cant do a simple thing like get wlan stick to work you will have 10x more trouble installing ET.

Then you will struggle even more when you try to put your config on D:

QuoteSeriously there is no problems with PB running on windows.

Except when you run a side-by-side comparison of a fresh install of ET and one with up-to-date PB and realise just how much performance you are losing because of Punkbuster :)

It's pretty bad even on my quad core, the problem is much worse on single core systems
Parent
Did you do that? I'd be interested to see the results, i wont even call you a munter or nuffin :)
Parent
Been working on it, plan on publishing a column with some real stats.

Need to either find a drive for my single core system or get someone to run a few benchmarks for me :\

Parent
what kind of quad core do you have?
If I run et on my dualcore in windows, i can see some stuff like that in the taskmanager, and also the game is a little bit sluggisher compared to linux, but definately not that bad o.O
Parent
Fuck off you greasy bastard.
Parent
sh et-linux-2.60.x86.run

OH NOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Parent
Wireless works fine for me, but cables are still better :(
Did you have to do anything? D:
Parent
Yes, plug the WLAN stick in l0l
Nothing else :{
Parent
: (
Do you use Unbuntu 32 or 64? :D
Parent
panda uses MSDOS, dont let him f00l you l0l
Parent
ubuntu immediately recognized my stick.. no terminal lines needed
Parent
What is the output of ifconfig wlan0 ?
And how did you connect? Did you do it by iwconfig wlan0 essid ****, or by the graphical stuff?

You could try writing
dhclient wlan0
and see if it helps

Oh, and did you use ndiswrapper or did you manage without?
I installed wicd, since the normal networkmanager didnt work properly.
Ill do the ifconfig asap brb

should be working then.. Did you set this IP statically or recieve it by DHCP?
Parent
dhcp

tried dhclient wlan0 but I get a large error report.
Furthermore It went without ndiswraper
Parent
hm.. what kind of errors do you get with dhclient eth0
Parent
do you mean wlan0 ?
Parent
I deinstalled the 64bit partion now will try it with a 32 bit one, maybe the wlan drivers didnt support 64 ^^

Hm.. Is your network encrypted?
Parent
WPA2 wise, should I try to unlock it?
Parent
Yeh, try to make it work without encryption first..
Parent
Didnt do the trick
Parent
It works also on XP perfectly.
Do you think I should try a 32bit distro?
Parent
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up; dhclient wlan0

ubuntu will work now!
Parent
No possiblity, I dont want to use WEP, even I can get acess into a WEP secured system. :(
Parent
seems to be the problem, will try it.

If this works I will marry you <3

Do I need to enter my MAC adresse of the one of the router? :Z
Parent
no, MAC address should be auto detected
Parent
could you do some screens which explain it step by step, since I cant find the option I guess :(
Parent
Into xp click Start>Run and type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotes). Find ur realtek network card> right click on it>select properties> under the advanced settings tab look for the Wake-On-Lan setting or similar and see if its disabled. If this is the case, then enable it. boot to ubuntu, does ur network work now?
Parent
there isnt something similar to wol ...
