No idea about you yermans. Our government wants to pay everything before christmas so we would spend them all and keep the economy rollin'.
Parent
we have end of year for ppl who own an own company end of december. for ppl who got a job its end of may.
but it depends. sometimes we have to pay :o
Parent
same here, end of may. can't remember the total sum tho :/

Got 800e. Loaning money to government with zero percent interest rate is out, though. :s
Blame yourself! Better start to count your percentages and sidejobs better ;)

I don't get nothing, they never have here!

We have to have a fucking license to have a TV :@, we have to pay something called road tax and this is for fixing the roads and car parks. It's £40 to park for a day and the roads are shit as hell, you get clamped if you park anywhere else. WTF is this about?

Government is shit, who the fuck needs a license to use a TV? You also get a fine if you don't have one, they scan areas all the time for TV's unlicensed.

The UK is officially shit, they scam money out of everyone!
We need a license in Finland :|
Parent
Its been like that for years. Its life....
Parent
It is like the temporary car tax in Finland, since 1997 :)

We have tv-licence too, though I don´t pay it. Got busted once by inspector, had to pay about 100€ extra + licence.
Parent
Oh poor Thomm, how did he bust you? One of my mates claimed that you don't have to let them in your house, dunno if it's true but..
Parent
Old roommate let him in...

same ting here in germany init

Isn't it just if you are receiving a television signal? Hooking up a HTPC to an LCD should be safe right
Parent
Anything that can pick up a TV signal is illegal. Remember the old VHS players, if you had one of them you needed a license. The reason being it had an ariel in which could be used to record TV. The guy was sued for £1000, pretty much a piss take, considering you pay £120 a year for BBC1 and BBC2.

They call it Freeview but it ain't free at all, even the Internet TV has been classed as a signal, they are now making you pay for a license.
Parent
Well I don't plan on buying a TV. PC hooked up to a 24 inch monitor should be good.
Parent
The TV license goes to other channels not just the BBC. You need a license if you watch a signal live through an aerial and the equipment is plugged in. It doesn't matter if you watch on a computer or a TV. But, there are ways to get round this, and they're very specific.

I only watch programmes on the BBC iPLAYER which is fine, and you don't need a TV license for this. The only 'live TV' I watch is football streamed through Sopcast or TV Ants. The law is very specific and frankly weird. I don't have to pay a license if the equipment I use runs on internal batteries. So, when I watch the football I unplug my laptop from the mains and since I don't receive the signal through an aerial I'm 'covered'.

E: The TV license is exceptionally good value for money to be honest. If you use OfComs figures for how much TV we watch per day, and then pay the BBC minimum wage for every hour you'd fine the TV license wouldn't even last one week. It's very good value for money - trust me.
