Gabriel Fauré's Sicilienne for piano and violin/viola/cello. It sounds even better with flute and harp imo.
need mp3 for that sir

primavera by einaudi, though it's a string quartet, not just a violin =d

Totally raped by the violin :'(
Parent
This quality sounds kinda bad but I like the piano only version more as well, it's cool clip to play :)
Parent
the only time a violin should be playing Chopin is if it's in the orchestra as an accompaniment. Interestingly, this version was actually not too shabby but the piano is too overshadowed :(
Parent
Yay, I just wanted to offer Chopin in some form here, because he is the greatest composer of all times :)
I just love playing his tunes
Parent
You might want to check out "Les Sylphides" (If you haven't already). It's is a ballet suite consisting of a bunch of Chopin pieces orchestrated by Alexander Glazunov. Naturally, they don't quite capture the "salon-like" essence of the original compositions but you might be surprised how fluent and chopinesque the music still sounds.
Parent
Somehow I like this A LOT better than the original version.
Parent
Some parts are better in my opinion as well, especially the dialog between piano and violin (dunno if u get which part I mean :)
But on the overall, it wasn't as impressive as it could have been. I guess the average sound quality is the most obvious reason..
Parent
piano version is so much better :(
Parent
i dont know what you are doing in reallife

Parent
very nice songs. especially the first one and 2nd one as well
Parent
I don't know to be honest. But I know that going to classical concerts is completely mesmerizing. It's all different when you're there and nothing else matters. Just the music through your veins... Ahhhh
try vanessa mae
no pianos in my country.
Franz Liszt - La Campanella
Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata

For violin, I'd say Bruch's 1st Violin Concerto was a pretty sick song with a relatively slow opening movement and then a final movement which is amazing. I recall breaking my E string several times from playing the opening lines of that 3rd mvt :/
I used to like La Campanella a lot, but after I learnt to play it, it wasn't that special anymore :)
Guess I just played it too many times when training it :p

Moonlight Sonata never loses its charm, although Beethoven got also better sonatas
Parent
hmm yeah, Campanella is more of an etude than anything else. I'm not a pianist, but I've heard most piano players use that song to warm up. Moonlight's the way to go for deep songs that truly reveal style. <3 Beethoven
Parent
I'm never entirely certain on Bruch, but I've not really heard enough to judge properly, I guess.
Parent
hmm, he's more of a heavy and dark type (sort of like Beethoven)

If you want to listen to Bruch at his best, listen to Kol Nidrei. I played it on violin a while ago but when I heard Du Pre's cello interpretation I figured it was probably not written for my instrument xDD

Parent
Yes you are, only reason I knew it was because I have that exact song. :X
lol. that was used as a c64 song in the game "the last ninja"
Parent
I also thought it was in Shen Mue on Dreamcast but it turned out I was wrong.
Parent
I was wrong, it was Rob Hubbard that used this song in the c64 game Internationl Karate.

I believe there is other c64 versions of the song as well but can't remember who made them and for what demo/game. Loooong time ago.
Parent
pretty nice to see some of you enjoy music other than the regular commercial crap on the radio.

GG!
(thumbs up)

Listen to some Brahms: hungarian dances {:::
Also some of my favourites. I've listened them all several times, I haven't played many yet myself though. I liked #11 when I was younger, it was easy to play already then. Recently I've played #1 which I like kinda much. And ofc I have played #5 as well because of its popularity. But which ones do u like most :) ?
Parent
I couldn't decide upon a favourite :(
I like #4 and #5 quite a bit thou
Parent
I should try #4 myself then, thx for the tip :)
Parent
Some of the Brahms quartets are amazing.
Parent
yasunori mitsuda!
I prefer string quartets to piano stuff. Beethoven, especially late, are my favourites. This is one of the best (EDITED to replace with a complete performance and better quality).
Also, Chopin and Rachmaninoff are my favourite composers. Closely followed by Bach but he has such a huge pile of music I have yet to listen to so it might be smart not to judge yet :D

Favourite pieces (dont have my playlist at hand so not too extensive + this is solo piano mostly, except for concertos):

(chopin)
Waltz no. 14 in e minor
Fantaisie-Impromptu op. 66 in C sharp minor
Ballade no. 1 in G minor
pianoconcertos, no. 1 and no. 2
polonaise no. 6 in A flat major
valses op. 64 no. 1 and no. 2
prelude op. 28 no. 22 in G minor
nocturne op. 72 no. 1
nocturne #20 in C sharp minor (already been posted)
grande valse brillante op. 18

(rachmaninoff)
prelude op. 23 no. 5 in G minor (one of my favourite preludes by any musician)
prelude op. 3 no. 2 in C sharp minor (playing it at a recital this week :))
his piano concertos, no. 2 and no. 3
prelude op. 23 no. 2 in B flat major
prelude op. 32 no. 12 in G sharp minor
etude-tableau op. 39 no. 6 in A minor
some of his other works like vocalises, variations, etc.
Chopin got a great many of very nice pieces but my favourites atm are
Etudes op 25 #11 & #12
Ballade #4
Scherzo #3

Hmm, I thought I was supposed to be quite knowledgeable on the subject but as it turns out I haven't been listening much of this piano/violin stuff. I only know the violin sonatas by Beethoven and Brahms which are all quite brilliant but that's about it. Also that Elgar sonata that was featured in Nodame was lovely as well.

EDIT: Also, they're not SONGS, they're PIECES. Yes, I may be a bit of a pedantic nazi but that's just how it is.
srey then ^^ my englishknowledge isnt thaaaat good :P

Now this is what I call music, though the techno shit ruins it all. Also acoustic nylon guitar sounds super awesome with em.

This for example is nice.
