I was recently looking at relaxing music, the kind to listen to when going to sleep, so ambient/light mainly. These are the artists I ended up finding from this little adventure:

It's basically a site full of creative commons licensed (read: free) music from a wide range of artists. Think there is something like 14,000 albums on there covering pretty much every genre you can think of. Recommend checking it out as it should be hard to find genericness, these artists aren't going to restrict themself to convention in an attempt to sell albums.
