how to disable the zero configuration for xp?!

its only recently my wireless is being retarded for some reason :s the speed use to be stable at 54mbps now it keeps changing :s
EDIT: even after disabling windows wirless zero config i still get the changing speeds.
My modem is downstairs, only bought it a few months ago, it worked fine and now my wirless is a real pain. Any suggestions?
