Any ideas how to run DX 7 on win xp??

DX7 applications should work out of the box with XP.

ok i am running latest dx 9c or whatever but want to try dx7 and when u try to install it says incompatible o/s bla bla bla... So even with changing permissions - ie running as win98/2000 it doesnt do anything.

Ideas?

Directx is installed with basically all versions. 1 till 9 in XP. What you mean is in the game itself. Its a certain setting. dont know the cvar so this is how you do it in the menu:

Options
Graphics
Rendering Method Preference ->Put value to directx7
