hardware question.

I have got an ASUS P5PL2-E motherboard with some shitty Core 2 Duo (2*2,0 Ghz) processor.
I want to buy this: INTEL S775 CORE 2 DUO E8500 3,16GHz 64Bit

Is it compatible? And how a processor change is going? Simple?
Or its not like that? I have to buy new motherboard too if I want that cpu?

Thanks in advance!

I saw Google once. He was nice!

Google is nice on vent!
Parent
it should definitely fit on your mainboard!
if it's simple depends on your skills with such things. :p
Parent
Yes it will fit physically in your motherboard, but that cpu runs at a 1333 Mhz fsb, where your motherboard only supports 1066 Mhz - according to the asus site... so no don't...
Parent
yeah
looks like up to the 6600
what? so i cant put it in?
Parent
doesn't support the e8xxx ;s unlucky

overclock your 2 ghz dualcore to lets say 3.3 Ghz. Save your money for good GPU. Only need to get a good cooler. €40,- for Zalman.
he cant get any kind of that ghz with that cpu + motherboard, his cpu is extremely low

I recently overclocked a 1.8 Ghz dualcore to 3.3 Ghz stable. Orthos tested etc. Only the CPU, not the RAM. Still running fine and score 11400 in 3dmark06.. Or is this type CPU he got such a bad overclocker? Didn't check it tbh..
his motherboard is excellent for overclocking afaik!
Parent
i THINK his model is erm the E2180
Parent
posted some links below for E2180, on the mobo he should check the BIOS for jumperfree configuration. But first get a good cooler :)

2 GHz > 3.3 GHz

Nice :D he might reach 2,3 GHz with stock cooling
