avira works in a sandbox enviroment, if you didn't have the worm on your pc(either by allowing the worm to enter/the worm is undetected/you had it before you installed avira) it wont be able to replicate.
Yes PB is spyware. But that's perfectly okay because at some point you pressed 'okay' to an agreement that noone reads, that allows evenbalance to do whatever the hell they like to your computer and the information stored on it.
Ive used it too for ages and got virues all the way, never had a problem with nod32/kaspersky so far.
