even dinosaurs laid down some eggs like 150 million years ago, It didnt start with the chicken. Next to that its somekind of evolutional process. Prolly before it was really an egg the baby/whatever was born in somekind of other protected shell ( much softer though) which evolved into an egg after million and million of years.

every egg would have been a new, but small step in the evolution of the chicken as we know it. chickens themselves don't evolve while alive, so the only change is in the egg. therefore, the first egg that sprung a chicken as we define it now would have been an egg from a form of non-chicken and therefore the egg was first.
