Philosophy lol

so my friend took philosophy at college right and he says his mate told him about this question in the exam.. it said 'Describe this chair' with a picture of a chair.. so one guy writes a whole paragraph and goes into great detail about said picture of chair and gets no marks for that question
then this other dude sees the question, writes 'what chair?' and gets full marks! i think im definitely taking philosophy 8>

Philosophy is pure shit. It can't be defined. Everything you say is right. It's utter bullshit.

I remember a discussion with my teacher about chair's existense. She was wondering if it was even existing - do we just think so. And if we close our eyes, is it still there or has it disappeared? Some with fridge light.

Save me from that shit.

I got a five from that class :-D (4-10) I thought the exam would be an easy one... It was everything but easy. I had to write down a couple of known quotes (which can be understood in any way) and write a goddamn 3-site-long essay about that overrated chair.

If you argue with an philosopher you'll only lose your temper :D There is no way winning the argumentation.

Teachers always win the argument because they know more than you. It's like arguin about religions. The one with more knowledge wins, even though there is no real answer yet. And, no I'm not a religious person. Just popped out of my mind. :p

ye I understand its usefull too people in their lifes if they experience bad things and stuff but don't disturb me with it. In Holland ppl are spreading books about the world actually was created in 7 days by god and that the darwin theory is not right etc. I mean GTFO everyone with a decent brain should understand that the darwin theory has a 99% percent chance of being correct or nearly correct.

Yep, that' why I don't claim I'm right. But can't understand how can somebody actually believe to the religious theory with such odds :D

And I don't make myself look like an idiot by telling what's right. As long as nothing is 100% sure no-one should claim anything :p That's one of the reasons I hate seriously religious people.

There ar many professors, who believe in God not because of some bad experience, but through the nature's research and the research of darwin's theory, means, they take a view from a science side.
With ur Age of 17 u definately was never dealing with this theme, im 100 % sure.

Gotta take 4 subjects at college. Physics & Maths are obviously the focus. Philosophy is something nice to have on the side incase I decide to not go for Engineering/Physics at university.

If you think it is entirely bullshit then you've clearly never read any of the works of Hume or Kant for example.

I don't think Hume is very readable. His writing style is pretty long-winded. His political philosophies are also a lot weaker than the likes of Smith, Rousseau, Kant, etc.

If you were to avoid his political writings and lengthier works he's fine, but if you're trying to entice someone into philosophy I wouldn't be recommending him. :p

Philosophy is something for yourself (at the start) and I think only suitable for mature people. In my opinion you can laugh about it but one day you will see how important it is :) Basically, everyone has a philosophy, rather you like it or not.
