Trev's Music Corner SE #1

This is a special edition of the infamous TMC journals. All of
these albums are MUST HAVE ones, there is no exception. If you
missed any of them, its time to refill now your knowledge of
music. All of them were highly influential to the bands we listen
nowadays. I'm planning to make 3 parts of this, later we will see.
There is no need to give similar artist, there is no need to give
best songs and there is no need to rate these albums.

Band Name: XTC
Album Title: Drums And Wires
Year: 1979
Genre: post-punk / new wave
My Rating : 10/10

Last.fm View:
XTC were an influential post-punk/new wave band from Swindon,
England.

First coming together in 1972, the core duo of Andy Partridge
(guitars, vocals) and Colin Moulding (bass, vocals) went through
numerous band names (including The Helium Kidz and Star Park)
over the next five years. Drawing influence from the New York Dolls
and the emerging New York punk scene, they played glam rock with
homemade costumes and slowly built up a following. Drummer Terry
Chambers joined in 1973. Keyboard player Barry Andrews followed
in 1976, and the band finally settled on a name: XTC.

My Own View: Making Plans For Nigel brrrrr :)

Band Name: Talking Heads
Album Title: Talking Heads: 77
Year: 1977
Genre: post-punk / new wave
My Rating : 10/10

Last.fm View:
One of the most important, influential and enduring new wave bands,
Talking Heads regularly modified their sound, bringing in elements
of punk, pop, African rhythms and funk among others to add to their
original jerky stripped-down art-punk stylings.

Talking Heads first appeared on the New York music scene as a trio
in 1974 essentially as art-punks. The band consisted of David Byrne,
Chris Frantz, and Tina Weymouth. By 1975, Talking Heads recorded a
demo album for CBS records and landed a gig opening for the Ramones
at the legendary CBGB club in their native New York City.

My Own View: David Byrne is a god.

Band Name: Joy Division
Album Title: Substance
Year: 1988
Genre: post-punk / new wave
My Rating : 10/10

Last.fm View:
Joy Division were a post-punk band formed in 1976 in Salford,
Greater Manchester, UK. The band dissolved in May 1980 after the
suicide of its lead singer, Ian Curtis. Much of their
popularity/reputation arguably resulted from frequent playings on air
by iconic DJ John Peel, but it is easy now to overlook the impact that
the first album, Unknown Pleasures, had on post-punk music at the time,
as reference the number of prominent bands that cited this album as an
influence. The remaining members reformed as New Order and they have
gone on to achieve much critical and commercial success.

My Own View: Joy Division is maybe the most influential band ever.
Substance is a 1988 Joy Division singles compilation released by Factory
Records. It is a companion to New Order's Substance.
